Winter Tyres

Hi, I know it's still August.....but must say I really struggled with traction on the Scirocco on snowy roads last winter, even gentle hills seems to render it pretty useless. Has anyone fitted winter tyres, what's the thoughts, improved traction or just a waste of money and better getting the train...

RCD510 Ipod Track Display

Does anyone have a fix for the onscreen display when you hit next track from the steering wheel for example. While the connected ipod will happilly moves onto the next track and it sound plays fine, for some reason the RCD510 display has a habbit of not displaying the new current track and still sho...

Climate Control AUTO options

Hi, anyone know what the difference is between the two options on the AUTO button on the climate control unit. There's two lights on it, you can press it to light up either.

Bosch blades have been on 4 weeks now. Have just spent a week in Scottish Highlands in gales, rain, hail, sleet and snow. Still wiping cleanly!

Re: poor build quality rocco

I must admit that the "legendary" VW build quality has not quite lived up to expectations for me! It's mainly the fit of the trim, the cabin is full of rattles and squeaks. Slowly one by one I am identifying them, and padding with sticky felt! There is also a rattle from the parcel shelf b...

Wiper Bliss

In the words of the Eurythmics "I've tried everything, you're a loser now": the VW wipers blades were driving me mad. Smearing, missing parts.

My solution:

Bosch 980S Aerotwin Wiper Blades

Perfect wipe!!! Why the heck don't VW just fit these as standard!!! :D

I managed 48.4 in 2.0 210ps TSI! I have a witness as well! Taking it very easy, minimal revs.

Re: snow

Hmmm, not good experience with Roc and Snow. Seems to lack traction to get going on slopes. Have tried traction off and on, and flipping DSG box to 2nd as quickly as possible. Once momentum is built up then it's fine. Don't know if it's a combination of low profile wide tyres and dsg box, but not fu...

Re: Mysterious Part

Thanks Kev, will have a look at the runners in the daylight!

Makes sense given that it was after the seat was moved!

As the months are going by I'm starting to notice lots of little niggles with VW build quality!

Mysterious Part

Hi, I was cleaning my car at the weekend and a mysterious plastic part appeared in the drivers footwell. Not sure where it came from, the front seat was moved forward at one point while hoovering out the rear. Pictures attached. It has various part numbers on it: 8E0 881 348E with Germany written un...

Coolant levels

Hi,

I notice that the coolant level in my car is now down at the minimum.

It's done about 9000miles and was only ever filled to mid way between the min and max when new.

I can't see any evidence of a leak, is it normal for coolant to reduce?

Temperatues and engine oil seem fine!

Cheers

Re: Speaker/Dash Rattle

Hi, I had an annoying rattle that took ages to find, but I eventually did! If you follow the plastic casing around the hand brake and gear level past the storage area where the ashtray would be it then slips under another piece of plastic that forms the main dash. This to the right hand side in the ...

Re: HELP "SD CARD or IPOD or USB

I've tried Ipod Nano (5th gen) and USB stick. A few observations: ===== IPOD: ===== Bad points: 1) Has a habit of skipping briefly between songs if on different albums (e.g.playlists). 2) When you move forward or back track in playlist it plays the right track but sometimes displays the wrong name! ...

Re: Daylight Running Lights. ARGGHHH......

All new cars will soon have DRLs in some form. As the percentage of cars grow with DRLs then everyone will feel much more settled and "normal" I imagine. At the end of the day it's a safety feature, first started by Volvo many years ago I believe. If it makes you more visible and stops som...

Re: finally some smear free wiper joy!

I agree totally with RW1. My wiper smear was never too bad, but had an annoying smear in driver's eyeline which is dangerous in the dark when driving under street/motorway lighting especially in heavy rain. I also found the solution to be: Clean windscreen Put blades into maintenace position Clean r...

Re: MDI Firmware Upgrade

I have the dreaded skip at start of songs and also if you force a change to a new song it doesn't always update the displayed track. While we are all blaming the VW RCD/RNS510 firmware for this, I'm starting to wonder if it's bugs in the Apple firmware on ipods? Has anyone tried any other media devi...

Re: petrol options?

Have typically been using Shell V-Power but was on holiday in Scottish Highlands and used standard unleaded. Can't say that I noticed a huge amount of difference in terms of performance or mileage, though V-Power/BP Ultimate additives are allegedly better for your engine, but more costly. While crui...
