55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
Only a couple of hundred on the clock since but trying hard on the M4, I got 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph cruise control in my GT 2.0 TDi 170 6 Speed DSG. Can anyone beat that ?
I hope one day I'll get 60 mpg !
And since it is possible to reset both the ‘1’ and ‘2’ counters by pressing the OK button for a few seconds, what is the difference between them ?

1 is your current values for that trip (within a bit of reason because if I go back to the car an hour or so later it still carries on where it left off).
2 is a total since you got the car (I think).

my manual says
1 is shown until 2hrs from when the car is switched off, then it resets
2 is valid to a distance of 10000 miles
i can confirm 1 is right, will let you know about 2 in 18 months!

Re: 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
It's quite easy to get over 60mpg, I did a run from Bristol into the centre of London last weekend including getting stuck in the traffic round Knightsbridge and that averaged 53mpg. The motorway section of the journey was 70ishChrisL wrote:Only a couple of hundred on the clock since but trying hard on the M4, I got 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph cruise control in my GT 2.0 TDi 170 6 Speed DSG. Re: 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
I did a return journey up to Perth a few weekends ago and the average mpg was 61.3. Average speed was 54mph. Once had an average of 68mpg a few years back in my old Golf 1.9TDi on a journey up to Aberdeen late at night with virtually no traffic

Pleased to hear the high mpg figures at the slightly higher mph speeds meaning you become less of a rolling road block. Could you let me know which page/section of the manual you found that definition in ?
My 55 mpg figure included start-up from cold so I guess next time I’ll reset counter ‘1’ once the motorway starts. I’ll leave the ‘2’ counter for longer averages.

Re: 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
I get around 31MPG in my 2.0TSI. I've already decided my next car will be a diesel. Still prob an A5. I was sold completely on the A5 until I realised I was too young for it and still wanted something a bit more throw around a corner-y. The roc is my 2nd car, so think the 3rd will be a diesel and I still sigh a little when I see these fuel figures, but I don't do over 16k miles a year and although petrol is creeping up, it's still cheaper than diesel. But that last one I can ignore as I use 97/98 ron fuel.

Re: 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
Well yes, but it was 15,000 miles ago and was a 70mph/50mph through the speed limits on the M4 near Newport. 73 mile trip from Cheltenham to Cardiff, all but ten miles was motorway. Here's the proof;ChrisL wrote:Only a couple of hundred on the clock since but trying hard on the M4, I got 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph cruise control in my GT 2.0 TDi 170 6 Speed DSG. Not only was it dull, but it's hard work to stick to that speed. Not done it since.

Cruise control and some decent music is the only way to bear it !
The CC has been a surprise delight in this car. Love the ability to touch up or down the mph accurately with just fingertip control. For motorways it's the new game to maximise the mpg according to varying the mph.

Re: 55.2 mpg at steady 50 mph
57mpg ave for a pretty constant 80mph down the A19 (70 mile round trip) in the middle of summer - would've cracked around 62mpg if i'd been doing 70, no doubt.

I managed 48.4 in 2.0 210ps TSI! I have a witness as well! Taking it very easy, minimal revs.
