Polo GTI Anybody?

I am thinking of moving on from the Scirocco and want something different. I am not a huge fan of the current Golf GTi and the thought of a smaller car appeals to me. I find the Scirocco a pain in car parks because of the door length and I quite often have rear passengers who struggle to get out. So...

Re: Do they still do a 220BHP petrol Scirocco?

So is it the same engine (detuned) or a different lump? If it is the same engine then presumably it's an emission thing but then they could always get around that ................... ;)

Re: DSG fluid leak

The first couple of visits cost me £160 during which they re-sealed the cover plate and then on the second visit replaced it. They told me it was not covered by the extended VW warranty. When it went back in for the box to be removed and re-sealed I was expecting a huge bill as they had the car for ...

Re: DSG fluid leak

Good luck with that diagnosis Matthew, after a few failed attempts at fixing it mine needed the gearbox taking out, splitting and resealing. So far so good however.

Re: DSG Oil Leak

Mine has been back in this week as the oil leak returned, so the new cover and seal did not fix it. They have ended up taking the gearbox out, splitting it and resealing the joint. I don't know how well it will work because they told me VW had told them the box cannot be split but the mechanic said ...

Re: DSG Oil Leak

Follow up on my leak - The mechatronics cover and seal were changed on Wednesday free of charge. They kept the car overnight and put some miles on it and no leaks on Thursday so fingers crossed.

Re: DSG Oil Leak

The mechatronics cover is at the front, mounted vertically and from what I could see looked to be a steel pressing about 10" x 6". The mechanic told me it had 3 bolts at the top but only two at the bottom. I presume they think mine must be distorted or something but why that should happen ...

Re: DSG Oil Leak

I have the same problem with mine. The dealer noticed a leak during the MOT but said it was minor and they would investigate further at the next service. However a few weeks ago I noticed drips on the path so booked it in. They changed the gasket on the mechatronics cover and charged me £160 (oil le...

Re: DSG reliability...

The most common problem at that age/mileage with this engine is the inlet manifold. Mine in common with many other peoples had to be replaced at about that time (search the forum for details). Check that it has had a DSG oil filter/oil change as that is due at 40K or if not budget for it. Mine now h...

Re: Miles from a set of tyres?

Mine is coming up to 5 years old and 56K miles and still on the original rears. They are suffering from the stepping problem and so far I have lived with the noise but I think I will change them soon. The fronts are the second set and are due for replacement.

Re: How much to respray and polish a bumper?

Just had a similar thing. Another car grazed my rear bumper (just paint damage). Fortunately I was able to stop him as he was driving off. VW approved shop quoted £405 to remove and paint the entire bumper but even though the other party was paying I thought this was excessive for a very small patch...

Re: Air Con not working

As you say the compressor could be faulty but don't rule out the re-gas because of age. I had to have my condenser changed because a stone had gone through it and it wasn't holding gas.

Re: Air Con service

I have had mine serviced by VW and it definitely improved things. They empty and regas. The only separate part they charged for was £15 for Zaircon air con cleaner. I used to have it done on my previous Golf and found it beneficial on that too.

Inlet Manifold Problem

Earlier this week I was driving along and the engine warning light came on. As the car still ran fine I immediately took it to my local main dealer. They checked the car over and diagnosed a problem with the inlet manifold (flapper valves?). They have ordered a replacement which is due to be fitted ...

Re: Too big

If you find yourself forced into a tight space becuase it's the only space left in the car park, sliding your seat back and opening your window makes it much easier to slide out. If you return and the original car is still next to you use the open windows feature on the remote. I find the open windo...

Adamj is right, you can scratch your screen as I found out on Friday  Due to a knee injury I have not been able to drive the Scirocco since August - it has just been sat there taunting me. Last week I was given the all clear to drive again but only because the DSG means I don't have to use my l...

Re: Pano Sunroof

Digger, You are correct, it only tilts (and not by that much). I bought a car from stock becuase I was not prepared for the long wait so I had to go with the options that were already fitted which meant the pano roof. I quite like it now as it makes the very black interior a bit lighter but if I was...

Re: Rear light clusters

Crafty, Exactly as Digiman says, they come off very easily. If you are then changing a bulb there are then about 6 plasitc clips to spring back. Be careful they look very cheaply made and the sort of plastic that will snap of when you try to spring them particullarly if cold and lay the cluster down...

Re: Park sensors + display

IAmbu, The following would suggest that it can be done but would be expensive. I bought a stock car so had to go with dealer fit sensors so did some searching and found these links. I admit at the time of getting the car it annoyed me that I did not have the visual display but it bothers me less now...
