Air Con not working

Post by r.gbrown »

Anyone had any problems with the air con? Only done 11500 miles in 18 months and its stopped chucking out cold air. I noticed a bit of a whine from the compressor recently that never used to be there, could that be the cause or may needs a regas but surely my car is too new for that? First long life service is due in a month or two but maybe put it in early to get checked. Any thoughts?

As you say the compressor could be faulty but don't rule out the re-gas because of age. I had to have my condenser changed because a stone had gone through it and it wasn't holding gas.

I've had to have my Condensor replaced too.

Apart from the compressor, the first thing to check is the gas pressure and if low have it refilled with some dya added to trave the leak.

I had the same issue, it was the compressor, had it done under warranty 6 wks ago.

Start the car, put air con on, look at the air con pump & see if the bolt in the middle is turning, if its not as it should it will be the compressor.

Cost is £450 just for the part ?

Sorry to take it off topic - but if your car has done only 11,500 miles in 18 months are you certain that the Longlife regime is the correct one? There are quite specific operation requirements for this regime - most of which are relevent to high mileage/long trip useage.

First service done today for 190 quid. They told me the gas just needed a recharge for the "charge " of 60 pounds. I thought that a little strange for such a new car but Arnold Clarks assured me all was fine with no leaks and nothing to worry about. Well, we will see over the next few days and weeks. Not impressed with their service or attitude BTW, tried to over charge on service costs from figure quoted. Not be rushing back there....................

Had a few bad experiences with AC a few years and will never use them again.

I think it's a bit rough charging you for the regas on such a new car too. At a year old I had a similar issue and they put a dye in the gas to source the leak which turned out to be a faulty condensor. All done under warranty.

Yea, I thought it a bit off too that they charged for the regas. Need to wait and see if that's all it was needing. Clarks have a real monopoly here in Glasgow area and are the only vw dealer nearby. Not impressed by them or the attitude of their service manager. Not be rushing back unless forced to for warranty stuff

I use Ingram in Ayr and can't fault them. Although not used them personally, but have only heard good things about Advantage in Stirling.
