DSG fluid leak

Post by matthewlancs »

Hi guys,

Noticed a patch of oil on the driveway yesterday so took my roc down to a local garage to be checked out. Up it went on the ramp and I was called in by the mechanic who showed me underneath.

There was a mess of DSG fluid that had leaked all over the passenger side driveshaft. He said it will be one of the seals on the flange (whatever that means!). He reckons an hours labour plus parts to fix.

It's an 09 plate TSI with 45000 on the clock. From what I can see on here this seems to be a common problem.

I recently had the car remapped and I'm just wondering if this could have caused the problem or whether it is a bad coincidence?

Cheers!

Good luck with that diagnosis Matthew, after a few failed attempts at fixing it mine needed the gearbox taking out, splitting and resealing. So far so good however.

The first couple of visits cost me £160 during which they re-sealed the cover plate and then on the second visit replaced it. They told me it was not covered by the extended VW warranty. When it went back in for the box to be removed and re-sealed I was expecting a huge bill as they had the car for 4 days and lent me a courtesy car. However, when I picked it up they said that between themselves and VW they would cover most of the cost as it was over £1000 but 'only' charged me £400. They still claimed that the warranty did not cover oil leaks and the policy booklet is both vague and contradictory so I phoned the warranty company myself and they indicated that it might be covered. Anyway to cut a long story short 2 months later I got my £400 back so all told it cost me £160 and I would have had to pay £100 excess on the warranty anyway. It was a main dealer that I have used for years and they were very apologetic and embarrassed by the contradictory information given by the warranty company. The guy dealing with it insisted the warranty company told him it was not covered but on checking it turned out the same person told me it was and both calls were recorded for training purposes!

So overall a good result although I am still disappointed it leaked in the first place but I still love it and would not go back to a manual.

They'll be no such luck for me, 2009 plate so no warranty left!

I'd be very interested to know if I remap could affect this part and gave caused it because if so its coming off!! Haha

Well.......

Car has been in the garage yesterday and has been fixed - fault was found to be a leak of DSG fluid from the filter housing in the end that had dripped down onto the driveshaft.

A strip down and inspection of the housing and a replacement filter + seal later and all is good. Road tested and no more leaks

However, a couple of fault codes were found and cleared - they did not come back after the road test so hopefully nothing relevant:

P1847 - ABS ECU Intermittant signal
U0103 - No comms with selector intermittant

Done a couple of searches on these codes and it's all a bit techincal and above my head!!! Thoughts please!
