I recommend you get a copy of 'my' new quarterly mag: https://theroadrat.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Well researched and written with brilliant photos. The content is more about the stories, less about the specs than the existing monthlies.

Front Discs & Pads - dealer price
My 1.4 TSI 160 needs new front brake discs and pads after 40,000 miles. Any advice on typical dealer prices for this job?
Thanks

Rear Shock Mounts - torque spec
I need to replace the rear upper shock absorber mounts on my 1.4TSI 160. Can anyone advise the correct torque specs for the bolts to secure the mount and for the piston rod securing nut?
Thanks

Re: Wheel alignment
£60 is good value and it looks like your alignment has produced some small improvements, most noticeably in the front & rear toe setting.

Re: Alfa GT (05) to Scirocco GT 140 BHP
A friend of mine went from an Alfa GT JTD to the Scirocco 140TDI (60 reg) and has been very happy with it, especially as everything still works! He is 6ft and has plenty of room - no head banging issues. Quite happy with the 140 but admits to being a 'lazy' driver - not really looking for max power ...

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire
Hi Spoony, I found with my misfire that it only occurred with the engine fully warmed up (i.e. after at least 15 mins of moderate to hard driving). Then I could repeat the problem at least 1 in 3 times in a full throttle acceleration from 1600 - 3000 rpm. Also seemed to be more likely when running o...

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire
They didn't show me the old plug but I expect it is a similar issue.
The car will be out of warranty next September and I will change all the plugs at the first sign of a problem after that.
Any recommendations on the best plugs & gaps to use for the 1.4TSI 160 engine?
Cheers

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire
UPDATE My car went back to the dealer with this problem for the 3rd time (lucky?). This time they kept it for 2 days. I picked it up this evening. They managed to reproduce the misfire on test drive and traced it to number 4 cylinder - replaced the spark plug and now all is well! Fingers crossed it ...

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire
Thanksfor that RW1.
I may take you up on the offer if the dealer can't sort it out for me on its next visit, which is at the end of the week.

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire
RW1 - to answer your queries:-
I take your point about avoiding the band where it happens, I don't want to risk any more damage!
I am in Lancashire and the dealer is Lookers Blackpool.
The engine is standard and has never been remapped (the car has been owned by me from new).
Cheers

Re: Another 1.4TSI misfire

RW1 - Thanks for your input. Sounds like the coil-pack changes being proposed should fix the problem!RW1 wrote:If the idle is smooth as usual, then more likely a coil pack playing up.

Another 1.4TSI misfire
My 1.4TSI 160 (Aug 2010 build date) has developed a misfire at 26,000 miles. It occurs when the engine is hot, full throttle between 2000 - 2500 rpm. It feels like one hesitation as the car accelerates, and on one occasion has given a flashing amber engine symbol. The dealer failed to diagnose anyth...

Re: Dampers degraded
Many thanks for the reply martdy.
In fact I have just changed all 4 tyres. From Pirelli P7 to Avon ZZ3.
I guess that might explain the change in dynamics, although I have never noticed such a dramatic difference before on other cars (except when changing to/from run-flats).

Dampers degraded
My 1.4TSI 160 has just reached 20,000 miles and the effectiveness of the dampers in Sport mode has dropped noticeably. The car now feels quite bouncy on a bumpy road, and the suspension crashes when the wheel hits shallow potholes. Previously the car was well damped, and had a firm ride (not crashy)...

Re: 1.4 TSI 160bhp - What do ya think!?
I've had my 1.4TSi 160 for 15 months / 16000 miles and I think its a great car. The only downside for me is the odd rattle. Pluses are: superb handling and grip (apart from understeer in slow speed, sharp corners), powerful engine throughout the rpm range and pretty economical. I advise you to run i...
