1.4 TSI 160bhp - What do ya think!?

Post by Didorx »

Delivery of my Rocco is pretty imminent, this Friday I'm told.. just in time for Xmas!
Can't sleep!! :eyepop:

So... a question for those who have one: What do you think of it? Pros & Cons??

I picked the 1.4tsi 160 engine due to Budget.. and CO2 emissions (Company car tax). Of course a 2L would have been more fun to drive.. but a lot less "fun" in my wallet. So.. overall the 1.4 seemed to be the best value for money.

Would be interesting to hear (read) people's views.. from every aspect. 8)

Love my 160 1.4. Had it over 2 years now.
I got this instead of the 2.0 model as I do mainly short trip inner city driving and the 1.4 was more economical, cheaper to insure and cheaper to run. Great engine giving lively performance.
You don't get some of the extras that you get on the GT models and adding them all as options doesn't make financial sense.
I see you've specified the multi-function steering wheel, Interlagos wheels and parking sensors - 3 good choices. However its a bit late to be asking "what do you think" if its coming in a few days.

I had mine since feb 2010 and nothing bad happened so far. Small annoying things, like moisture inside resulting in interior frosted windscreen, but otherwise worth it.

My reason was, why pay more for power when i cannot really apply on a dayly basis?

for me, ts a reasonably priced, dayly communting coupe.

Being a company car, I'm not too worried about any potential problems. Of course it could turn out to be a pain.. but at least it won't cost me anything. (I hope I don't regret saying this)

I guess most owners tend to come here to write about their bad experiences and look for advice... there must be many more happy owners that never bother posting about how reliable their 1.4 is.

I've owned a Saab before.. so am used to a lot more than just a problematic engine! I drive a 59 diesel Merc at the mo.. which also has its mood swings now & then.

I'm pretty happy with the options I picked..
Picked the heated seats to keep the girlfriend happy/quiet and away from the heating controls!

Certainly too late to change my mind.. but trust me, I'm not having any doubts!
I did quite a bit of research before ordering it and am pretty happy with my decision to go ahead with it.. for the budget I had, the alternatives were boring & basic 1 Series, A3 or Golf. Civic was a contender but.. just not special enough.

I've had my 1.4TSi 160 for 15 months / 16000 miles and I think its a great car. The only downside for me is the odd rattle. Pluses are: superb handling and grip (apart from understeer in slow speed, sharp corners), powerful engine throughout the rpm range and pretty economical.
I advise you to run it on V-power or Tesco Momentum as it makes a very noticeable difference to the engine response and power output.
Enjoy!
