Dampers degraded

Post by roadrat »

My 1.4TSI 160 has just reached 20,000 miles and the effectiveness of the dampers in Sport mode has dropped noticeably.
The car now feels quite bouncy on a bumpy road, and the suspension crashes when the wheel hits shallow potholes. Previously the car was well damped, and had a firm ride (not crashy).

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Just a thought how are your tyres? I could not believe the difference that new tyres made to the sport setting on mine (and in general).I'd stopped using it with my old Pirellis because of hard ride and skittish handling. Now with new Michelins all round I find it much better.Like a new car again.
I don't do big miles 18k in 3 years on the original boots, so slow degradation .I'd swapped the tyres front to back at about 10k.
Rising Blue,DSG,Vienna Leather,Winter Pack,Pano roof,Folding mirrors,Dynaudio/DAB,Park Sensors,Cruise, Flat tyre indicator,Prem Mats+Sills,Metal Pedals,Gt Badge,Fiscon,Covered cup holder/rear cup holders.Now gone Piano Black with new Climate Control

Many thanks for the reply martdy.
In fact I have just changed all 4 tyres. From Pirelli P7 to Avon ZZ3.
I guess that might explain the change in dynamics, although I have never noticed such a dramatic difference before on other cars (except when changing to/from run-flats).
