Re: iPhone4 MDI connection

I think it's a bit of an expensive solution to buy a seperate iPod to sort the issue not if you can buy one cheap from eBay like I did. I quickly got sick of plugging my iPhone 4 in every time I got in the car. I bought a iPod nano off of eBay quite cheap and just leave that plugged in all the time...

My drivers window rattles too, but only when it is cold. It's been a pain the last few days, but now it's warming up again it's stopped.

Out of interest, which silicon spray do you use?

Re: RCD510 - Am I doing it wrong?

Well if there is another way I haven't figured it out. I initially thought the same as you, it could be navigated with the buttons on the wheel and by changing the MFD to audio, but apparently not. It's a bit of a pain having to do it the other way at times.

There is an input level option for the iPod too. I have to set mine to low to get the best sound quality, medium or high and the sound quality is very poor.

Yes, that can be a major pain if your looking for a specific song.

Re: GT 170. MPG

I use Shell V Power all the time, it's only about 6p more round here, so about £3 a tank. With the amount of money we pay in fuel anyway it gets lost in the noise. Does it make my mpg any better? I think it does, but others say no. I can't prove it though.

Re: How is a diesel car more expensive to run?

The This is Money link does say that some cars only need to do a very low mileage to make up the difference, 1,162 miles for a Mini Cooper and 5,542 miles for a Passat are two that stand out. With the cost of the GT scirocco diesels being less than the GT petrol, you are already saving before you dr...

Re: GT 170. MPG

I would love to be getting 60 mpg! My average is between 47 and 49 mpg, sometimes I am lucky enough to get 50 but that's the exception rather than the rule.

Still, if I wanted excellent fuel economy I would have bought a 1.0 litre Fiesta.

Re: How is a diesel car more expensive to run?

The Golf does seem to be quite expensive to insure compared to other similar cars. For me, insurance costs between the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI was hardly any difference but even on my mileage (9,000 pa) I calculated that the running costs of the 170 TDI were a lot less than the TSI.

It's not the fan by any chance? Happens a few times on mine after I park up when the engine is hot or it is going through the DPF regen cycle. Usually stops of its own accord within a couple of minutes.

Re: Central Locking

A lot of the rental cars in Canada have a remote starter, where you can use the key fob to run the engine for 15 mins to heat the vehicle before driving off. With the winters getting colder each year, that's something that would be a good idea over here too.
