Recall action for 2009-2012 TDIs being reported in Germany

Just a quick heads up that 'Der Spiegel' and ASP (AutoServicePraxis) are reporting that VW will be recalling 325,000 2.0 TDI equipped models (mostly VWs, but also some Audis, Skodas and Seats) built from 2009 to 2011. Affected VW models are Scirocco, Eos, Golf, Jetta, Passat und Tiguan, and the T5-B...

Re: Scirocco "slow selling and unloved", apparently

I stumbled on this article from Auto Motor und Sport which dates back to June --> http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/neue-kompakte-coupes-vw-scirocco-seat-leon-co-3769651.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Briefly translating in note form, the bullet points are: - The...

Re: Xenons - Cover Foil

Sounds like a better bet than the VCDS setting for continental driving which drops dip to a range of about 30 feet as far as I could make out when I tested it - stupidly dangerous and not recommended.

Re: Fuel/Distance Remaining, how low can it go?

Richard A: 55L + 7L reserve seems way off the mark for my experience (+17L even more so). When I ran out it was only a 56L fill (and i'm taking the volume from the jerry can into account there). My "miles left" counter tells me to fill up at 40/45miles left and despite driving economicall...

Re: Fuel/Distance Remaining, how low can it go?

Lots of interesting real world experience above, thanks. I do have one question. My Scirocco manual (English, print status on back cover 24.08.2009) says in a table at the bottom of page 180 that the fuel tank capacity is "approx 55l, plus approx. 17l reserve". Is this a misprint? To be ho...

Re: Teardrop wipe for wipers

The rear wiper does work in front Auto mode (or at least it does on mine) but it doesn't necessarily come on as soon as you engage reverse. I'm not entirely sure how it works but I suspect that the rear wiper only sweeps when you are in reverse and the front wipers perform a wipe at the same time. ...

Re: Scirocco Facelift 2013 - your ideas please..

Lot of good ideas above. The only thing I can think to add is to have the auto-dim off/on on the rear view mirror 'remember' what the driver sets it to in regular use. It's a pain having to switch it off every time I start the car because I find the relative brightness of following lights is an impo...

Re: Take one Scriocco...

The Scirocco is an excellent packaging solution for a coupe, so I guess it was only a matter of time... It's funny though that these days VW design is calm, confident and relatively understated whereas Merc (even given that this is a concept) is all blingy and hysterical. When I compare my neighbour...

Re: poor build quality rocco

I must admit that the "legendary" VW build quality has not quite lived up to expectations for me! It's mainly the fit of the trim, the cabin is full of rattles and squeaks. Slowly one by one I am identifying them, and padding with sticky felt! There is also a rattle from the parcel shelf ...

Re: Winter Tyres

HOWEVER, those of you who choose to fit different wheels, and or smaller tyres etc ARE modifying the car. Also worth noting/watching that the smaller diameter winter tyres tend to have lower speed ratings, which means, technically, they aren't suitable for the car. Although, all of you fitting 16's...

Re: Why isnt the roc R 4WD?

Yes, Andy's right, also from various reviews that I read when both Golf and Scirocco Rs appeared, I think VW capitalised on that situation to offer two different kinds of driving experience in the same segment, light + pure (Scirocco) and heavy + hi-tech (Golf). Judging by most review summaries, the...

Re: Your 1st winter as a Scirocco owner

Agree with all of the above as this is my second winter with the car too and I wonder if VW are considering a redesign in any upcoming Scirocco makeover that would introduce framed doors (although that sort of re-engineering is probably not cheap). I'm guessing a lot of people in colder climates th...

This is my second winter as a Scirocco owner and am being driven crazy (yet again) by the daftness of the window-dropping design... Trying to get into the car after a day at work and no access to warm water to defrost the window seals is very frustrating..Have to unlock the boot only to then get th...

Re: snow

I got the steel wheels and tyres complete from mytyres.co.uk however I believe they are now sold out. 205/55x16 is about 1.9% smaller in diameter from 235/40x18 so the speedo over-reads but not by much. The winter tyres have made one hell of a difference. We have about 8" of snow on the side r...
