Why isnt the roc R 4WD?

Post by MrSimmo »

Ok so had a search, also rang up VW UK and couldn't get an answer!

Does anyone actually know why the roc R isn't 4 wheel drive like the golf R is? Is there a technical reason why they didnt go with 4wd?

The factory where it is built doesnt build any 4wd cars, it'd have cost a lot to build a special shell for a relatively low volume car.

The Golf was already being built in 4wd form before the R

Yes, Andy's right, also from various reviews that I read when both Golf and Scirocco Rs appeared, I think VW capitalised on that situation to offer two different kinds of driving experience in the same segment, light + pure (Scirocco) and heavy + hi-tech (Golf). Judging by most review summaries, the Scirocco seems to come out on top in terms of sporty driver satisfaction, although I haven't been following it up recently.
