Mega MPG
Thought I'd post this ....
Sad I know..
Been to Holy Island today from Darlington a oneway trip of 90 odd miles I thought I'd take it easy and see what MPG I could get ! ....
47.1
could not believe it Bloody good for a 210bhp petrol
It must of been down hill all the way because it had gone down to 45.9 by the time I got home (but we did a bit of a detour to Amble..
Tal.
P.s. I have country lane route of about 11 miles were I usually get about 16MPG ....

Re: Mega MPG
How about 58.5 mpg for a 220bhp 340lb ft diesel?
It normally averages 50-55 mpg on motorway runs doing 80-85.
It's the fuel of the devil, but it makes for great fun and economy at the same time.
But if fuel costs weren't a problem, I'd have an R every time.

Ha ha I knew a tractor boy would be along to rain on my parade....
Remap you say ... how about 260bhp and improved mpg on a 2.0tsi (torque is important but cos you only have 5000 revs to play with irrelivant)
Sorry but derv only ever wins based on economy (as you state), how many proper sports cars are petrol ?? all of them....
Each to there own ...

Tractors seem to do ok at Le Mans :-)

Re: Mega MPG
That's incredible to get 47 mpg out of the 2.0 TSi, the best I tend to see is around 40 at best! Bizarrely the 210ps car I believe is slightly more fuel efficient than the older 200ps (like mine).

Re: Mega MPG
Coming from big horse power Scoobys a few years ago I am amazed by the best of both worlds attributes of the TSi engine ...
As for Le Mans ... Errr 24Hr ... Errr fuel economy ... Errrr no F1 Tractors !!
Dont get me wrong the modern TDi is a fantastic bit of kit it has come on leaps and bounds but has no place in a performance car or sports car ... not yet anyway...
Its all about economy .... (it would be a far far far better economy based purchase to buy a 5 year old Ibiza TDi ... the depreciation alone of a newish car makes a penny pinching few hundred quid a year approach very flawed)

You are right of course, proper sports cars are only petrol (hence my Boxster)talgti2 wrote:Ha ha I knew a tractor boy would be along to rain on my parade....

Le Mans is an endurance event so diesel will win most times.
But I still want to try a remapped BMW 335D with 350bhp
A remapped 2.0tsi should be able to match or beat the existing ecomomy of the standard engine, unless you rag it all the time, which is very tempting.

Having said all that my next car maywell be a derv ... but purely for economy ... 220bhp would be nice too !!

Re: Mega MPG
The tractors did quite well in WTCC and BTCC as well :-)
I have to agree a true sports car should have a petrol engine but, and I know this might upset some, but the Scirocco is not a sports car, it' a Golf with a pretty frock on.
I'm a true petrolhead and didn't like diesel much. Last car was R32 which sounds awesome, but needs must and I'm surprised how well the diesel drives. I'm a fan of torque and don't like revvy engines

Re: Mega MPG
I am a true petrol head, my last petrol car was a 07 Audi S3 which was fantastic but the MPG was killing me so i bought the Roc diesel. No real problem making the change and I really like the drive, and £70 for 450-500 miles as apposed to £70 for 260 miles makes me a little happier.

Re: Mega MPG
I filled my car up on Friday and have done 300 miles since then, mostly dual carriageway and a bit of round town. My trip computer now says I have a range of 335 miles available! (And I really haven't been trying too hard to get the MPG up either!)
My previous car was lucky to get 300 miles from a full tank, so I'm happy enough with my Scirocco.

Re: Mega MPG
With just 2100 miles on the clock the overall mpg is showing 51.8. I'm more than happy with that for a new engine. Today on a busy M4 trip showed 62.7 with speed varying between 60 and 70.
As for the remarks that diesel should not be put in a sports car, the Roc is a Grand Tourer and it does that brilliantly. The 170 engine fits the bill perfectly. If I wanted a sports car then it would have been a real wheel drive petrol, my dream the Honda S2000. As it is I am more than pleased with my Roc.

Re: Mega MPG
Exactly gibbsy, I have a Scirocco GT, and I use it as a GT.
I have to drive from North Yorkshire to London and back next week, mostly motorway, and congested at that, so not a lot of sportiness required. And I'll be able to do it without messing about refuelling. My old car would require at least 2 tanks of petrol to do that journey.

Re: Mega MPG
Im getting a TSI and looking forward to the fuel economy. I do have an S4 right now though...
As for the comment about about the 335d, holy smoke they are seriously quick cars and not just for a diesel. A 335d estate is probably the best all round car on the market I would say.

Re: Mega MPG
given an average of 25-30 mpg around town, what sort of mileage are you getting around town on a full tank?
I do around 330 miles locally on a single tank, but sometimes it feels like the MFD is fibbing me!

Re: Mega MPG
Ive only got the 1.4 TSI, and I usually get 50-55mpg on motorway runs, Most I seen was 63.5mpg for my motorway commute one morning. No bad for a Petrol Turbo.
I was used to getting 25mpg from my 2.8 V6 Passat. So its a big improvement.

Re: Mega MPG
That's superb for that engine. This is my first post so, Hello to everyone.
I averaged 41 mpg on a recent round trip to Stranraer in my 2.0 Tsi. Used to average 49 mpg in my 520d Msport so not much of a difference. Only had the car a few weeks and love it but still trying to get used to the tiny petrol tank.
