That's incredible to get 47 mpg out of the 2.0 TSi, the best I tend to see is around 40 at best! Bizarrely the 210ps car I believe is slightly more fuel efficient than the older 200ps (like mine).

Coming from big horse power Scoobys a few years ago I am amazed by the best of both worlds attributes of the TSi engine ...
As for Le Mans ... Errr 24Hr ... Errr fuel economy ... Errrr no F1 Tractors !!
Dont get me wrong the modern TDi is a fantastic bit of kit it has come on leaps and bounds but has no place in a performance car or sports car ... not yet anyway...
Its all about economy .... (it would be a far far far better economy based purchase to buy a 5 year old Ibiza TDi ... the depreciation alone of a newish car makes a penny pinching few hundred quid a year approach very flawed)

The tractors did quite well in WTCC and BTCC as well :-)
I have to agree a true sports car should have a petrol engine but, and I know this might upset some, but the Scirocco is not a sports car, it' a Golf with a pretty frock on.
I'm a true petrolhead and didn't like diesel much. Last car was R32 which sounds awesome, but needs must and I'm surprised how well the diesel drives. I'm a fan of torque and don't like revvy engines
I am a true petrol head, my last petrol car was a 07 Audi S3 which was fantastic but the MPG was killing me so i bought the Roc diesel. No real problem making the change and I really like the drive, and £70 for 450-500 miles as apposed to £70 for 260 miles makes me a little happier.
I filled my car up on Friday and have done 300 miles since then, mostly dual carriageway and a bit of round town. My trip computer now says I have a range of 335 miles available! (And I really haven't been trying too hard to get the MPG up either!)
My previous car was lucky to get 300 miles from a full tank, so I'm happy enough with my Scirocco.
With just 2100 miles on the clock the overall mpg is showing 51.8. I'm more than happy with that for a new engine. Today on a busy M4 trip showed 62.7 with speed varying between 60 and 70.
As for the remarks that diesel should not be put in a sports car, the Roc is a Grand Tourer and it does that brilliantly. The 170 engine fits the bill perfectly. If I wanted a sports car then it would have been a real wheel drive petrol, my dream the Honda S2000. As it is I am more than pleased with my Roc.
Exactly gibbsy, I have a Scirocco GT, and I use it as a GT.
I have to drive from North Yorkshire to London and back next week, mostly motorway, and congested at that, so not a lot of sportiness required. And I'll be able to do it without messing about refuelling. My old car would require at least 2 tanks of petrol to do that journey.
Im getting a TSI and looking forward to the fuel economy. I do have an S4 right now though...
As for the comment about about the 335d, holy smoke they are seriously quick cars and not just for a diesel. A 335d estate is probably the best all round car on the market I would say.
Ive only got the 1.4 TSI, and I usually get 50-55mpg on motorway runs, Most I seen was 63.5mpg for my motorway commute one morning. No bad for a Petrol Turbo.
I was used to getting 25mpg from my 2.8 V6 Passat. So its a big improvement.
That's superb for that engine. This is my first post so, Hello to everyone.
I averaged 41 mpg on a recent round trip to Stranraer in my 2.0 Tsi. Used to average 49 mpg in my 520d Msport so not much of a difference. Only had the car a few weeks and love it but still trying to get used to the tiny petrol tank.
