As the title says im coming up to 40k now so conscious that i need to get the DSG oil changed.
Just wondered whether people reckon its worth paying for a dealer to do it or have a phone round? Im in the Northamptonshire area and as of yet havent come across any VAG Specialists?
Whats the damage likely to be? Reading other forums im expecting around £160? Due its 10k service on top of this too

Ryan - I've given you a link to a Northants VAG specialist on "the other forum".

Re: DSG Oil change
I'm in the same boat, if a bit further north in my particular hypothetical boat (Cumbria).
I've been hearing scare stories of DSG boxes packing in and needing new Mechatronics units after 40-50k, and many folks simply saying you should get rid of a DSG car after 40k if you have no warranty.
I don't really want to change yet, but I'm on 37k and probably couldn't afford the repair bill if it went bang.
Incidentally, if I keep it, I think a friend of a friend can do it, since he works for a SEAT dealer, and it's the same gear, right?
Cheers

Re: DSG Oil change
I believe the wet clutch gear boxes are the same throughout VAG as its not made via them.
Although the Seats do use the dry clutch gear boxes a little more and the oil doesnt need changing in them.
Im taking mine to the dealer as its £179 for the dealer and nearest VAG Specialist was £159 so for the sake of £20 would rather the responsibility in the dealers hands

Re: DSG Oil change
Don't worry about it, may never happen, see some positive comments here at higher miles, it's rare to have happy customers be vocal and post all over the internet, so you are always more likely to get those that moan and those that have never had a dsg car fuel it.

Also there are third parties doing refurbs and kits to fix now so if you have bad luck and someone in the trade for help, cost to fix probably won't be too bad ( certainly less than the depreciation on a new car.)
Personally I will have vw do the oil and maintain that goodwill, but thats a small insurance policy for a few extra quid come service time, hopefully i'll never need it.
