Z4 M Coupe or Roadster
Not going into too much detail lol
Out of the two cars which would you go for, I appreciate some of you might think they horrible but yesterday I had a great test drive and it was nice to feel the power of a decent NA Engine.
I always vowed not to own a soft top again after the S2000 due to the car being an ice cube in winter and the buffeting on the motorway being a royal pain in the arse when on a long drive! The M I took out yesterday though didnt seem to suffer with any noise issues, I am assume thats because the BMW is screwed together better, the only noise that I did hear was that metalic rasp of the quad exhaust system when taking up to max revs

Z4 M Coupe for me, really like the way they have done the back end. Plus you don't see many of those.
I hope your not changing the 'Roc!

Re: Z4 M Coupe or Roadster
I've owned a couple of E36 M3's The Z4M is the later S54 engine that goes in the the E46 M3.
Forget about the chav lights I got rid of them LOL
Fantasic enigne!!!! Straight six!!!! M-Power!!!!
If it were me I would go with the coupe as the lines are spot on and you don't see many about + the only other coupe is the 3.0
sport, with the roadster they go right down to a 2.0 if you get what I'm trying to say.

Could well be I'm afraid, I have been very upset with VW and their aftersales, having to argue with the dealer when I first recieved the car over the MDI cable and my mats taking a further 3 months to arrive, to the gearbox packing up and not being supplied courtsey car also being told to drive round in my car when the gear box has gone wonky and effectively in limp mode.
I'm not going to go into too much detail as VW will probably want me to sign a non disclosure, but we are in talks about how to resolve the situation, if they do come up with a fair solution I will keep the car but they are going to have to bend over backwards, if we dont come to an agreemnet then the car will be going and I will replace it with the above

Re: Z4 M Coupe or Roadster
Definitely the coupe. I was gonna get one of these until I spotted the Scirocco. Apparently the one to go for is the 3.0si (This is not the same as the older 3.0 litre)
“The 3.0-litre petrol engine powering SE and Sport models is the lightest volume production six-cylinder engine in the world and has won the Engine of the Year Award several times”
http://www.motorbar.co.uk/z430coupe.htm Good review comparing the 3.0si to the Z4M

This kind of thing isn't limited to VW, my old man has just got the "Red Cog of Death" RCOD as it's known on the BMW forums on his BMW M5 with a similar outcome to you have had with the Roc.
Best of luck with whatever you decide, after the experience you have had it does take the shine off things. VW dealerships are shocking, my local dealership is full of staff who come accross as arrogant and really not bothered about you or your custom so much so that i have bought 3 new Golfs from elsewhere in the past and they didn't get my business for the Scirocco either.

Never having had the impression that you were into hair straightners, curling tongs and bleach I suspect that you may be heading down the coupe route.
I have been keeping track of your tales of woe re the gearbox and feel the pain. IMOH dealerships are shocking even thoughI have have had a good experience with the Roc. In this current market I would take them on full force, know your rights then demand them is my motto.
p.s still think the TTS looks better than the BM

I havent put all of the story on here just in case VW pull a trump card out and we can deal with the situation like adults but at the moment they're service has been shocking, I'd like to stress this is VW UK not the dealership!
A little taster for you, I have told them I am not driving the car on the motorway over the easter holiday, (the mechatronics has been known to switch off all together whilst the car is being driven, I'm not risking that at 70 mph) They're reply was the dealer doesnt have a courtesy car available but they'll arrange something, fine thats great I thought, until a hire car company calls me up asking for my details then continue to let me know they want a deposit and they'll charge me for the use of the car etc!! Back onto VW to explain what I have been told, but they couldnt care a less and pass it back over to the dealer, In the end the delaer have stated they'll pick up the cost of the hire but I still have to pay the 150 deposit! My reply was I'm not paying a penny more than the 27k I have already paid for goods not fit for purpose, this is not my fault and to be perfectly honest I would also have prefered like for like not a 1.4 golf 5 door manual (not thats a big problem just making my point a little clearer). I still havent heard back from them and this has been going on for two days, Just to get a courtesy car while mine is off the road.
Oh and VW's response when I first informed them about the gearbox "what do you want us to do about it" Some will think I might be over reacting but I have never experienced such a pathetic excuse for aftersales in my entire car ownership!

Re: Z4 M Coupe or Roadster
Two old work colleagues of mine have CSL's fantastic cars truly superb, but since the arrival of the new V8 M3 which also has the carbon roof etc its starting to look dated, lovely sound though, performance wise though the difference between the Z4 M Coupe is negligible, with the shorter chassis and lower weight on the Z4 coupled with the fact the engine is the same other than a few minor changes also I dont want SMG II which in my opinion is a dated version of the DSG that coupled with the fact I want to go back to manual and live with the heavy clutch because with a manual I can uprate the clutch if I decide to up the poweralex wrote:Can't you get decent M3 CSL's for a good price now?
Albeit I was sat in the pub yesterday watching the liverpool game and low and behold an advert popped on advertising the all new Z4 this has made me re address whether I go for a car which is being replaced!

Re: Z4 M Coupe or Roadster
Funny this, I went past a BMW dealer tonight and pulled in to have a look at a Z4 coupe. Really quite liked it but, as above, would I really want a car thats about to be superceded. Even if the older one is meant to be better than the new one.
