Just had my second service which cost £222.78 in Aberdeen.

Only bugger was I noticed I had a slow puncture and the tyre needs replacing but not at £191 from the dealer for a SP01 Dunlop  .
I still have my winters on the front so will put on one of the summers in the shed and eventually buy two new fronts in a month or so.

Ouch that sounds quite expensive, my quote for £185 sounds like a bit of a bargain then for a second service. One of my quotes was £229 though.

Aye unfortunately the Granite city is bloody expensive for labour costs, when I got my TTE springs fitted on my G7 Celica I was quoted £485 supplied and fitted in Aberdeen and after a tip from a guy on CCUK I drove to Elgin (about 65 miles further north) and paid £262 for the same job, both quotes were from a franchised dealer !

Long life is around 18k so that isn't a long life service.

Glad I got 3 years servicing thrown in by Specialist when I bought the car.

Big problem with up here is lack of competition from nearby dealers - nearest are about 50 miles away any direction.

depends.

I'm on LL as part of my SMT plan and my first service was at 9k miles.

2nd one is 4k miles away..so will be around 19k miles.

all depends on how you drive as the ECU will dictate oil quality level and when it needs a change.

loving my SMT deal tho. 4 new Sport Contact 3's fitted today (had the car 1 year). That's £800+!! Already had 1 service ...reckon i could get 2 more services / 4 more tyres / brake fluid service / MOT before the deal expires. Happy days

Agreed, but that still isn't long life, first service at longlife is 18k and will drop from that, but doesn't really change that much earliest is usually around 16k for the first service. Unless you specified long life they usually put it on the short service from the dealers - they get more money that way when you come back more often :)

LL doesnt mean it should have a service every 18k miles...LL just means it lets the oil monitoring system decide.

And it can decide due to the way you drive it needs an oil change much sooner than 18k miles. :)

that's how i understand the LL system works.

Update - I have around 200 miles left before the long life service is required, called a few dealers to find out the cost startling results to say the least

Peter Cooper Portsmouth - £195.49
Peter Cooper Chichester - £170.00
Gilbert Lawton Manchester - £176.70
Wayside St Albans - £209.99

but the best one was

Alan Day London (North) - £349

Had my 2nd service done today for £185, not sure if I was being unduly unfair, but complained to them afterwards as I noticed the car had done 8 miles and the MFD was indicating an average consumption of 15mpg!

When I drove down this morning behind a convoy of slow moving cars, it was reading about 43mpg, not bad for a 2.0 TSI.

The garage said that the car was driven 4 miles before the service (on a preplanned route) to warm up the oil, it is then serviced, then driven again on the same route on a test run. Ok - I appreciate the average would go down if it was left idling in the workshop while they run diags on it or whatever, but to go down to 15 astounded me somewhat

I said that the car must have been driven in an 'exuberant' manner, but of course this was denied.

As a measure of goodwill they gave me some free fuel, but when I got back in the car, to be honest the gague hardly went any further, I reckon it was about £3 or £4 worth!

I am not normally fussy, but 8 miles for a basic service I would say was quite high, anyone think so?

Apart from that the service seems to have been done well.

Did you ask them to check anything ?, i am not even sure the dealers take mine out for a drive ?, i sit and wait for it to be done and have never noticed them leave the garage ?.

No, did not ask them to check anything, just said 2nd service here you go, and was asked to return 5 hours later. I had booked a courtesy car anyway so I had not intended to wait.

I was surprised they needed to drive it for 8 miles, if I was in a Fox or Bluemotion, I wonder if they would still be inclined to drive it for the same length of time!

Reading 1 resets it self after 2 hours of in activity from last start up I believe... So 15 mpg on 2 x 4 mile trips to warm up oil and check the car over to me is acceptable. But I do trust my dealer :)

Thanks Chungster, yes - you are correct, it does reset itself after 2 hours, it was just I had not ever seen it read that low, even after a short run! But garages are not bothered by wasting fuel with it idling for ages in the workshop, where as I see it as my hard earned cash going out of the exhaust pipe :)

I was surprised they found the time to drive it for 8 miles and the accumulated time was 30 mins on the MFD. Maybe I should be glad that they were properly checking it, but most of my previous cars have only ever notched up 1 or 2 miles after a service.

And as expected got a letter from VW FS today to say would I like to pay an extra £10 month from now on (23 months to go ) to extend my mileage allowance by 6.5k.

Was planning to do less miles in the R anyway with the sky high fuel prices so I think I'll skip their offer :)
