I have noticed that when the steering wheel has been in the same position (a few seconds), driving in a straight line or stopping at an intersection, there is a slight resistance in the wheel when starting to turn it and disappears after turning a few mm. It feels a bit like the wheel freezes stuck, but is still only a little resistance.
Driving in cities it is not that noticeable but driving on highway it can be quite annoying, driving in straight lines and making small adjustments – constantly hitting the slight “resistance areas”.
Especially annoying since I do not know whether it is a faulty car or something that “it just does” (like the engine is “supposed” to rattle)
Any similar experiences or any explanations?

I know the feeling you are describing, but I cant say I have noticed it in the roc - I felt that beforewhen I was driving a mates Honda a good few years back in comparison with the hydraulic PS that was on my golf.

Re: Steering wheel or servo?
hey guys the Scirocco has electric power steering, so it is likely that when the steering has not been moved, the system is not being pumped and thus it takes a few milliseconds after you start to move the steering wheel before the pump kicks in and powers the steering.....if I am very wrong, someone will be sure to correct me...

Re: Steering wheel or servo?
Sounds like a good explanation. Of course I could ask the dealer, but my guess is that the answer will be either "I am not familiar with that problem" and/or "I don't feel that at all"
In any case, if I am the only one = fault = can and need to be fixed

Re: Steering wheel or servo?
It is electric but there is no pump. It is driven by a motor on the steering rack.

Re: Steering wheel or servo?
in my prev. car ( honda civic 2001) i had a similar 'lag' , especially when going around a big rounabout when the steering was in the same position for several seconds.
i recall it was called 'drive-by-wire' and something to do with F1 from the mid-90s.
