No the voice control function they are talking about is to give instructions to the satnav (and possibly the video/DVD player).
The RCD 510 doesn't have the satnav or DVD playing capability.

the rns-510 has always had voice control though...
i thought that the new voice contol features in this firmware update allowed you to control other things like the media player.
if this is the case then it should work on the rcd-510 right?

The RCD510 doesn't have a hard drive though so you can't upload new software to it via DVD.
I don't know if there is another way of updating the functions on it. Probably is.

Oh quick update, regarding the speed limit. Here's the photo showing how it's displayed.

Image

I noticed that sometime the speed limit display is not very accurate. Sometimes it will show 60 when it's actually a 30 or 40. I think this is on some of the smaller roads. Certainly was wrong about 30% of the time in Cornwall. I think most of the major roads around London it didn't have a problem with though.

How do I find out what version of firmware I already have? I'm interested in doing this but it seems quite dependant on what version of the firmware you already have...

Press the setup button and hold it.
First You will see the setup menu, then after 10'ish sec. a radio menu (dont fidle here), then after another 10'ish sec. the "secret" test menu comes - You main now take Your finger back.
Click the top on system or something to see firmware version.

This didn't seem to work. I held the setup button and got to the radio menu. I kept holding it for about another 30seconds and nothing happened. I tried it with the key in the ignition and I got the unit 'beep' after about 10 seconds after the radio menu had appeared, but no 'secret' menu....

hmmm. You are doing it right... :?

I bought mine used from a dealer, had it reset to factory default.
Could be that the VAG-COM setting didn''t get reset on mine

When dealer first replaced my HU, it had this nice silver/white effect, then they coded it to the car and it went back to red. How do I get it back?

Choice of three colour schemes for RNS 510

Choice of three colour schemes for RNS 510

Highline grey (standard)
Sportline red
Premium black

It needs to be changed with the VAG-COM computer program. I did it my self in 5 min. - Your dealer can do it in max. 3 minutes, if You can make him care to...

QUOTE from vwvortex:
RNS510 color skin:
Yes you can change it but you'll need to buy a VCDS dongle though there
are people that have VCDS that will do it for you. 805.2 is what you'll
need to code the RNS-510. You can change the theme. There are 3 themes.
Highline, Sportline, and Premium. Once your done coding it you reset it
by pressing <> and brightness.

Vag-com! That's a shame. Anyone anywhere near winsford got one?

As for the firmware, my original HU had version 800 on it when it went belly up. They fixed it by reflashing it with version 1102. But on testing it, it just kept skipping through the track titles on sd and he'd, never actually playing them. They thought the unit was screwed and so replaced it. When new one came they upgraded I again to 1102. Meanwhile we tested my sd card with same files in a passat with same hu and v900 and all was fine, ergo my sd card and files were fine.

So, back to my car and new hu.... Same problem. So I took it home to play with. First off wondering if formatting type (ie fat, fat32, or ntfs) made a difference. No in short. Then realised my files were in wma format. Surely they would not drop this!? Suprised suprised, they have. Apparently new cars brochures will be updated!

About half my tracks were in wma  took me ages to sort!

I don't know what version they loaded, you'll have to ask them! And I suppose it depends when they loaded it up for you. It's only come out recently.
