Re: Grinding noise from engine..
the noise is from 2.0 tsi petrols only. There was a noise like a chirp from the 1.4tsi but thats a different noise altogether.
Re: Grinding noise from engine..
Baiker yea ur right i get this noise evey single time i accelerate which is also abit annoying and im not refering to the noise from the exhaust ' dump valve' or 'turbo' is also a noise that shoudnt be there. But im not talkin about that squeeky birdy noise , Im talkin about a rattling metle sound.
Im gona have fiddle around with what Lang was refering too.
Will let yall no how it goes

Right dudes, managed to fill out the heat shields with some more heat proof matting. (between the heat shield and underside of car body). They don't rattle or clatter when u bang them now. Also including a heat shield just above the 2 exhaust Hangers where the downpipe goes under the car (identified by two red rubbers on them).
Took it for a spin...... Very little rattle if any at all!!!! Woohoo. Just need to check a couple other sections of heat shield further back under the car and maybe some of the plastic too. There is still a slight bit of THE NOISE closer to 3000rpm but very faint for barely half a second, plus the whoosh of the turbo spooling up covers it up nicely, so the car now officially sounds awesome
I'll see how it goes and if things start to loosen off abit I may remove all of the heat shields and fully re fit heat shield matting and make sure everything is 100% tight.

I get this. I find the trick is to keep it above 3000rpm....

Hi,
I don't exactly know if the 'grinding' described here is the same as the 'rattle' that my Scirocco 2.0 petrol DSG made.
But if it is: watch out!
My engine blew up after driving 10 miles. Literally. They will have to replace the entire engine.

Re: Grinding noise from engine..
Seethe thread below on the same noise experienced in the states on the new TSI GTI's. It looks like the electronic wastegate of the turbo. It makes sense that it'll be experienced on the new TSI motors as maybe the design of the new IHI turbo just happens to have that sound. My DP has pronounced the sound now as before I could never hear anything.

Re: Grinding noise from engine..
Sorry to revive an old topic, but has anyone found a cure for this issue, is there a fix for the waste gate(if it is the problem) ?
I'm 8000 miles in and it still makes the same noise as it has from day one ... even after turbo replacement

Re: Grinding noise from engine..
After living with this metallic resonance for a year I'd say its part of the character of my car. I'd say most people plumped for this car for sum fun and to be different, yes its not ideal but it certainly creates a touch of character. To my mind its purely resonance and bending of heat shield that some posts suggest probably sounds viable. Personally I just enjoy pushing through the sound and pulling another gear.
