The bit I don't get about this system is that when I nudge the fan speed manually, it will decide for itself to invoke the left hand Auto light after the second nudge. I always try to run with Auto off because systems like this just bug me when they suddenly decide to erupt into full fan mode, just when you are performing some tricky road manoeuvre. However, even with Auto off, it's still continues to mess around with the fan speed, even if only in a fairly subtle way. Also, it irritates me that this oh-so-clever system doesn't seem to be hooked into the window control, so when you jump in the car on a hot day, drop the windows and head off, it still tries to whap the fan full on (slowly when 'not' in Auto mode, quickly if it somehow managed to get into Auto mode without me noticing). I guess I need to get the book out or get hold of VAG.COM to get it working the way I want.

Maybe I'm just a control freak, but although I really enjoy the looks, drivetrain and handling of this car, all this automatic rubbish just bugs me.

Had the same feelings initially coming off a daily driver that was 30 year old technology (Adjustable hot water valve control only!). "The car's driving me, not I'm controlling & driving the car!".

As regards the Climo, I just set the temps required now and leave it to get on with the central heating, like home.
The system has a temp sensor (black spot in the middle rotary control) which inputs to the required the fan speed.

The high speed change I usually get when the system senses the engines has enough warm engine coolant to povide heat output, it then puts the fan on more powerfully. Then when the cabin gets warmer within about 1'C of the desired cabin temp, it backs the fan down to either 1 or 2 illuminated bars.

You will also find that closer the cabin air temp gets to the desired settings, the cooler the air from the vents will become until the system is outputting only luke warm air just above cabin temp. (Not had th eluxury of a hot day yet to observe the reverse.)

I've just accepted the 3 bars fan speed going to Auto as managing the best way to get the selected temperature setting acheived.

RW1, I think you have a more sensible approach than me... I always end up tilting at windmills these days, I should chill out (using the Climatronic, of course).

I did study the manual, but could get no clarification re. the 2 lights on the Auto button, maybe my manual is already a bit out of date, although the picture of the Climatronic matches the one in my car (picked it up at the end of Nov, can't remember the build week).

For 'optimal road safety', the manual recommends using Auto and setting the temp to 22C (a bit hot for me)... the idea being that this is the way to prevent any misting and there maybe some sense in this, as I have been getting a bit of misting in rainy weather on lower settings. Also, I finally realised why these systems use A/C even when the outside temp is low, it's to de-humidify the input air, also helping to prevent misting. Hitherto, I always thought the automatic invocation of A/C was a bit counter productive when it was below 10C ambient.

Well the road salt has gone (just), so I'll be going back to 30 year old technology myself for the summer (only in my case adjustable hot air flaps).

with every other car ive had with climate control, just set the temp and let it get on with it. Generally I find 20.5 - 21.5 does the trick. The climate control wont throw loads of air into the car when you first start it as whats the point of putting more cold air into a cold cabin? It'll just make you colder...

Hi All. first setting on the air circulation button (top right) is for circulating air when you want it, the second position is to automatically detect changes in air quality and will then recirculate air until sensor gives all clear. If left in this position pollen dust etc is kept out of cockpit but on either sttings, smells still get in. markd3

I have a 2009 TSI scirocco. When I reach 40 mph, I can hear wind coming through the A piller vent on the passenger side. Does anyone know how I can stop this.
