Width is as important as Length

Post by morrissey »

Had a (very) narrow escape as I ordered the car without doing the garage test - Will it fit in my garage? :D

I tested my old A4 in the garage, and length was the main issue there. As the roc is shorter than the A4, no issue there - or so I thought.

Turns out that the roc is much wider than the A4 and only fits in my garage because I ended up with a car with folding mirrors, which were not part of my original order spec.

Without the folding mirrors, I don't think I would get past the garage door.

So just be careful if you are squeezing your car into an older, narrower garage.

This dawned on me the first time i got the 'roc home. It just fits. Pheww! i just assumed it would fit no problem, it's a decent size garage, but it's quite tight, don't have to fold the mirrors on mine though, fortunately , since i'd have to get out and fold them every time.

Mine just fits width ways too, about an inch on either side of mirrors going in, could fold them but don't need to, and then just enough room to open the door into a piece of foam on the wall. I find its easier to slide the seat all the way back to get out though.

I am used to it now. The first time I put it away was a bit daunting as I reverse it down a slope past some gates and a sticking out tap all the way past the house and into the garage. I was concerned when the brochure came out but didn't include the width including door mirrors. I was that paranoid i made the dealer let me bring an Eos Home as that is virtually the same width to make sure it would fit.

On a standard garage opening you will have about an inch either side...
The width inc door mirrors is 2080mm

Hi, I'm considering ordering a Scirocco at the weekend and having done a bit of research, it seems that I'll have a similar problem with my garage (which has a 2130mm opening - so the 2080mm width with mirrors doesn't leave a lot of breathing space!!!). Is anyone able to confirm roughly how much the width is reduced with the mirrors folded in, I presume not much, but it would be reasurring if anyone can point me in the direction of some figures/measurements?

Hi Mullet,

Yes - I have the brochure in front of me here , it says that the width excluding door mirrors s 1810mm, now I assume that is not the 'folded in' dimensions, rather the car width as a whole, so would allow a little more onto that, sounds like it will be a tight squeeze. Modern garages on new builds are dreadful, the dimensions are just too tight.

I had my external garage door single skinned in the middle, so I could open the driver's door.

It's a tight fit in any modern garage but doable .
