Blue Scirocco 2.0 TSi

Post by jclayton14 »

Thought I'd show the progress on my scirocco so far. Not done much as yet but plenty planned.

Done the gloss black badges first of all then had the wheels powder coated in satin black and painted the calipers in yellow.

Got some vinyl on order to wrap the trim parts on the dash and getting the wing mirror caps painted gloss black too soon.

Plenty more to come. Watch this space [emoji106]ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Now got the dash and door trim parts wrapped in Matt black. Left the centre piece around the headunit as I think it breaks the dash up nicely. Very pleased with the end result [emoji106]ImageImageImageImage

Hi jclayton14
This is a very nice scirocco!
Especially in rising blue.
also certainly with the black rims and the yellow calipers.
Did you paint them by hand?

Callipers were done by hand using hammerite engine paint. Took advantage of the car being on axel stands while the wheels were powder coated in satin black [emoji106]

The dash trim pieces were quite easy to wrap. Just used a Matt black vinyl from eBay and a heat gun or hair dryer to shrink wrap them. The door handle inserts were sprayed Matt black as they are a difficult shape to wrap for a novice.

Got a ticking noise coming from the engine when idling. Been told it was the cat burning extra fuel it's drawing from a previous remap.

Took it to dynotune my local remap specialist and they did a decat for me and also remapped to try and sort it but it's still there. Think it's now a tensioner.

Also have the black wing mirror caps on, found them on eBay brand new for £16.99 an absolute bargain for a set!ImageImage

I've asked someone who did it before and he told me that VW quoted him €3200. But that was also with a new chain, tensioner and seals

Turns out the ticking noise while idling was chain chatter caused by a faulty tensioner so had this replaced and now sounds perfect again and can get back to concentrating on some more mods. Only cost £140 to replace too.

You are very lucky, were you driving with the old model tensioner?

Yeah I was surprised too but it's only the tensioner. No new chain or anything life that.

Hi guys,

I just bought scirocco 2.0tsi 107k miles and I want to change chain tensioner on it as there are no evidence that it was changed in the past.

I`ve called to TPS and they`ve told me that there are two different tensioners going on my scirocco? Do anyone know which one is the 'Good' one? When changing chain tensioner do you need to spill out oil out of the car, because service just been done on it?

Thank you

The part number for the tensioner (when I did it recently) was 06K109467K. Double check it on http://www.oemepc.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

If it helps: Link to the diy guide I found on a GTI MK5 forum. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This guide doesn't say you should drain some of the oil first, you should, because the oil level is above the bottom of the cover (half a litre should do). I used a trolley jack under the sump rather than an engine bridge. It also talks about a noise pipe, which we don't have on RHD cars.
