Re: First to get a 2010 shout up !
Got my week 22 yesterday with all the 2010 MY bits and pieces.
Particularly like the new wheel - think it fits very well.
Even the dealer was surprised that there was a digital oil temparature screen now

Do you have the new climate control unit or just the wheel and instrument cluster?Herby44 wrote:Got my week 22 yesterday with all the 2010 MY bits and pieces.

Nice!
If you ever stop driving your new pride and joy , be good to hear what differences the new wheel has over the old - ENJOY!

Re: First to get a 2010 shout up !
I'm a bit mystified as to why the perforated parts of the leather on the wheel are the exact opposite to those on the old wheel, i'd expect the perforations on the bits your hands are expected to grip most of the time.
Maybe for all these years with the MK5 Golf and the 2008/2009MY Scirocco, VW have been getting the steering wheel covering panels shipped in as both a fully perforated set, and a non perforated set, and then making up the wheels with a mixture of the 4 pieces. Now they have a massive stockpile of the unperforated hand grips, and perforated top and bottoms, as they were never used before, and are trying to use them up?
Not sure whether it is just the lighting on the photo, but the centre wheel hub looks too light a shade, it dosn't look like it belongs to the rest of the wheel, but I like the chrome pieces more than on the old wheel. The dials aren't as different as I thought they were going to be, and that's no bad thing.
Glad the crappy and cheap-looking MK6 Golf climate control never made it onto the new Scirocco interior.
You seem to have more multi-function buttons on the new wheel also - better navigation of the computer and RCD500 with these? The new buttoms look like they'd be less susceptible to "shiny button" wear over time too.

Re: First to get a 2010 shout up !
The correct hand positioning for advanced driving is hands in the '10 to 2' (on a clock) position, so I'd say the perforated area is in the right place.maisbitt wrote:I'm a bit mystified as to why the perforated parts of the leather on the wheel are the exact opposite to those on the old wheel, i'd expect the perforations on the bits your hands are expected to grip most of the time.

Navigation seems to be very easy - although without having used the old wheel for any length of time can't comment on whether this is a big imrpovement. Manual seems to suggest that use of a rocker switch on the wiper stalk is required - I don't have one of these (unless I'm completely blind!!) and can do all navigation with ease from the wheel.maisbitt wrote: You seem to have more multi-function buttons on the new wheel also - better navigation of the computer and RCD500 with these?
The oil temperature is particularly useful and, as expected, lags some time behind the water in reaching a 'normal' temp.
Think it must be the photo as I haven't noticed a significant difference when I'm in the car. Overall I'm very happy with look and functionality of the wheel.maisbitt wrote: Not sure whether it is just the lighting on the photo, but the centre wheel hub looks too light a shade, it dosn't look like it belongs to the rest of the wheel, but I like the chrome pieces more than on the old wheel.

I see that the RPM meter go's into the Red line at 6000 in the GT 2.0 tsi, however in the 1.4 tsi the red line starts at 6500!
anyone has a clue as to why?

yeah if your a learner and just about to take your driving test. The steering wheel is shaped to fit your hands at 9 and 3. the old wheel is better with the perforations at this positions.iAmbu wrote:The correct hand positioning for advanced driving is hands in the '10 to 2' (on a clock) position, so I'd say the perforated area is in the right place.maisbitt wrote:I'm a bit mystified as to why the perforated parts of the leather on the wheel are the exact opposite to those on the old wheel, i'd expect the perforations on the bits your hands are expected to grip most of the time.

I like the new fuel gauge, seems to have a bit more range of movement for the needle than the old one did.
To be honest, the whole thing does look a lot smarter. Just two questions:-
- Are the climate control temperatures still blue backlit?
- Any pictures of the white multi-function display?

Haven't got around to taking any more photo's this weekend but hopefully another one from last week shows off the MFD a little better (although focus is still on the wheel unfortunately).
Loving the car so far - dsg is great. Gave it a first wash today - was dirtier than I thought (bit surprsed that from afar the white seems to conceal dirt fairly well) but the contrast made the dirt very easy to see.
Plenty of good comments so far. Funniest was that it looked like a "sports tank"

Poor show that they didn't bother fixing that, out of everything (wheel, dials) that needed sorting the most....The climate control temperatures are still blue backlit.

I must say, I really like the white lit MFD! Almost wished I'd waited for that rather than the red one....
As someone else said, bit shoddy that they stuck with the blue backlit aircon though
