Hi All
Just wondered what the normal oil temp for a 2.0 TDI (170) should be. I've just had a thermostat replaced and so I've been checking the oil temps - once warmed up I'n running 92-95 when normal driving, up to 98-99 when putting the foot down, and when idling around 89-90. Temps stable after around 20 mins of driving (from cold). Just wondered if these seem ok or are they a bit low?
Cheers
Si

Temps you are getting are perfectly normal. Mine varies between low 90s upto around 105 depending upon load and ambient temp.

I get between 80 and 120 depending on driving conditions.
Anything up to 115-120 is fine. I wouldn't have it get higher than about 125 for extended periods personally but I've only ever had this sort of temperature on track.

Re: "Normal" oil temp
I'd say your readouts are normal for UK driving under usual conditions. My TDi 170 tends to deliver these after 15 minutes of starting from cold so I'd say your car is like everybody else's.
The oil temp reading goes from "---" to "50" after about 7 to 9 minutes for me, depending on outdoor temperature and the weight of my right foot (although I refrain from giving it welly unless the engine is warmed up, to reduce wear damage through cold oil etc)
