Bluetooth Upgrade = No A2DP sound

Post by maq »

Hey all :)

I've just purchased the latest bluetooth unit (76P*L) to replace my current 3C8*L, due to its better implementation of A2DP/AVRCP, and the fact I can finally control music from my streaming iPhone via the MFSW. All good...

However, as the previous unit had A2DP streaming, I figured I could re-use the current harness and swap just the boxes.. seems logical.

Upon doing so, its all working a treat except no sound when in A2DP mode. I'm wondering if the harness has different pin outs compared to the old unit, although the carsystems.pl site suggest you can use the same harness for both models.

Wondering if anyone here could shed any light on what to check? I'm surprised if the harness needs updating, especially as the previous unit's A2DP audio gave sound, makes me think they might have changed the pinouts? I could swap the harness over, but it will require some changes around my mic wiring, which I'm not sure I'm technically good enough to attempt right now!

Thanks
Martin

Further investigation....

Harness updated to the one it came with, no change...

Enabled bluetooth auto play in RNS menu, and when you hit play on iPhone sound comes through.

Turning it off again, back to the A2DP/BT part of media, track names and buttons work but still no sound.

Wondering if the unit is missing some adaptation settings or otherwise, it's frustrating :(

Just in case the info I've learned helps anyone, cause was RNS 510 firmware. To get full A2DP/AVRCP support, if your BT unit supports it (7P6-035-730-L certainly does) you need to be running software version 3810 or later...

A quick upgrade, some VCDS fault code flushes on the can gateway and reapplying the video in motion patch and it's all working perfectly!

I have just upgraded the unit in my car to a RNS510 C (1T0 035 680C), SW 2840 (Bluetooth module is 7P6L). I have THIS problem, and after searching, the solution was right under my nose!!! I remember when you posted this thread maq, thanks, because it has helped me!!

I now know I need a firmware upgrade! I know how difficult these can be.. How did you tackle the problem? .i.e upgrade your firmware without bricking the unit

Dimexi,

Glad to see this post is useful to someone! I have to say it was a little bit of a scary process, but actually very simple :)

I managed to get hold of some firmware images from the vwnavi forum, burned to disc and kept my fingers crossed. The software upgrade itself rewrites firmware on the can gateway and the RNS and as I said in my post above, you need greater than 3810 for A2DP to work correctly. I believe when I searched, there was even some 4XXX firmware available but I was cautious and decided to upgrade to 3810 which was tried and tested, rather than the latest which might not have been so widely used.

There are some RNS 510 recovery disc images out there in case you brick the unit, so not all is lost if it goes wrong. I believe the vwnavi forum would be a good read before progressing, but for me it was simply unlock the car, turn on RNS (without putting key in the car!) and insert disk... then pace for about 45 minutes until done ;) I had no problems, but of course this is always at our own risk. I'd also recommend if you do get hold of firmware and burn your own disks, make sure you use a programme that verifies the disk after burn, as in my opinion the biggest issue is if you burn a 'coaster' from outset.

Also worth checking my-gti.com out for more firmware info... http://www.my-gti.com/category/in-car-e ... ertainment" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are a few words of warning about the upgrades, which I really recommend reading.. They're all on the my-gti site, and the biggest one is something I recall about needing to install 3810 firmware first to create a new partition map if you're upgrading from 1xxx or 2xxx firmware. The my-gti link above covers it though.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to help further.

Finding this thread was an absolute God send really; possibly saved me hours of searching.

Firmware upgrade now done, first attempt! I now have loads of unused DVDs - might start to run a firmware business :D

I'm just curious about the swap from the 3C8 to the 7P6.
It seems the 3C8 has A2DP with controll from the MFA too (at least the latest versions), Handsfree and rSAP (you can use handsfree connection if the phone doesn't support rSAP).
Why did you swap the unit?
I'm about to buy a 3C8035730E or a 7P6035730N to swap my actual 7P6035730D (which doesn't support bluetooth audio music info and control, just sound).
