I've just bought my "first ever car" too, a 2.0tsi and my insurance was £1800, and I'm 27, been passed just over a year :-s

Lot to fork out for something you don't ever want to have to use but hey worth it for a great car :-)

Not been on here recently but had two weeks booked off from work and drove to south of France in the 'R' was a good experience and also drove round the Monaco/ Monte Carlo F1 Circuit layout with of course 50 km/h speed limit in place

Haha yes I have to say French roads are far better then the uk! I was mainly filling up on the French motorways which is more expensive then towns but it was mostly around 170.4 P/L

Car is now booked in for a stage 1 remap. Was going to go with REVO but another one of my local dealers had something special up their sleeve which hasn't been released to the public yet and couldn't resist. "Stage 1 Custom-Code, No Hardware On The FLY Map Switching Technology" They are going to have to keep my car for a few days to test that it is fully working properly. Little bit of info they sent me. "On the fly switching is done by pressing the accelerator pedal down to the floor and tapping the brake pedal whilst in motion. This switches between stock, tuned and valet mode and is indicated by the engine management light flashing signifying which map you are in by how many times it flashes (i.e Map 1 flashes once, Map 2 twice etc)" Their new tuning file is estimated for 305-315bhp from the standard 261bhp and 305-315ft/lbs of torque from the stock 258ft/lb. Cant wait!

As far as ideas go, that is quite frankly utterly retarded. I don't think I've ever felt the need to have 'on-the-fly' switchable maps, never mind having to go WOT then mess around brake checking folk.

I am surprised you got insured on that, back when I had my first car, I doubt they would have let me near a 1.6L even!! My first was a 1.0L corsa, and I was very proud! Glad I didn't have anything quicker, might have not been alive today (not that I am say this applies to you of course, everyone is different).
I have 10 year no claims and I still find my insurance annoyingly high - or maybe I just like moaning. I will stop complaining when my premiums drop below £200/yr

EDIT: Like the DIY lowering - good stuff.... A Remap though? Your insurance might start to think of declining, no? :/

I quite like the idea of on the fly maps as most of my driving is town driving with lots of traffic. Can just leave the car in stock map then when i feel the need of more punch switch to the power map then switch back to stock after

My insurance company seems very good with adding mods and fairly cheap in my opinion too, im pretty sure its because i live in a "posh" area with next to no crimes hahaa

Well my car is very thirsty as it is now, as by the time i have got to work my average MPG is always around 18mpg

In the real world, I've noticed next to no difference in fuel burn between stock and Revo Stg 1. What's the difference between stock and 'ECO'? Lean burn? If so, best of luck to you.

My opinion, go for something thats tried and tested (especially when your playing with a £20k+ car).
