I know a few people with show cars who swear by Meguirs NXT Metal Polish.

Re: How do i keep the exhaust clean??
I have noticed this with this car. My previous Audi A3 had the same chrome finish (albeit only One tailpipe) and i never had this problem. I have to polish mine everytime I clean the car because normal washing doesn't clean it properly.
IF IT'S NOT BROKEN
I'VE NOT TOUCHED IT YET !!

Defo a brillo pad to remove the excess carbon and Meguirs NXT Metal Polish to make it shine!

So far so good on my exhaust! Just like when your mum cleans her pans lol and I only use the Brillo Pad on the lip that turns black not the shaft...

Autosol and a bit of wire wool gets the exhausts back to shiny, but if you want to use a product that helps prevent further tarnishing, Raceglaze Alutech is a great product - you can use it with a normal microfibre, or with some wire wool for a bit more oomph, and it leaves behind a protective film that helps keep them shiny for longer
