Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Has anyone had any issues with their factory fit folding mirrors ?
Since taking delivery of the Rocco on 1st April, about 5 maybe 6 times now (although totally randomly), when the mirrors have been folded and I turn the mirror switch to any position other than "folded", 9 times out of 10 they unfold properly, however as stated a number of times nothing happens.
The other day, I moved the mirror switch about 6 times and nothing. Even turned the ignition on and off a couple of times - nothing. Eventually on the 6 or 7th time, they worked.
Like I said it's totally random and has only happed 5 or 6 times since owning the car, but I'm a bit worried they might stick in the closed position ? I use the function a lot as our car park spaces at work are quite narrow. Is this a dealer check ?
Also, whilst I've got your attention (please ), I'm getting some noise coming in through the drivers door seal. It's funny as you can't hear wind noise, however if a car overtakes you, you can hear the car noise loudly like the window is partly down (whilst it obviously isn't). I ve also noticed if I power wash the car, I do get a few dribbles of water on the inside of the glass (not a lot just a few dribbles). It seems to be on trailing edge of the door right at the top (on the vertical seal on the B pillar). Is this quite common on frameless door cars or another dealer investigation ?
Thanks again.

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
I only have problems if i jump into my car, start the engine and then turn the mirror switch in the space of a few seconds. It seems like the car needs a few more seconds to do something before it gets around to unfolding the mirrors. It also does it if you change the position of the switch when there is no key in the ignition.
I am convinced though, if you start to drive they unfold (as long as the switch is in the correct position).

I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!
Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Not sure they do, not that I've noticed when I've tried My 2005 Mk2 Leon's folding mirrors would automatically fold if the switch was in the right position when you took the key out the ignition and then unfold without you having to do anything - then the Scirocco having to move the switch into position and then away to fold/unfold seemed a backwards step.Gilez wrote:I am convinced though, if you start to drive they unfold (as long as the switch is in the correct position).

I found on my R32, like said above, they needed a delay between switching the ignition on and operating the switch.

The same is to be said for the switching off of the ignition when leaving the car as if you do it to quick the car forgets/ doesn't have time to know you have turned the mirrors in.Cuprabob wrote:I found on my R32, like said above, they needed a delay between switching the ignition on and operating the switch.

I have the same problem, however if I start driving its eventually unfolds after moving a meter or so.

I have exactly the same problem! Usually when it happens I just leave the switch and by the time I have sorted the radio and seat belt they will pop out. It is annoying and think it one of the flimsiest thing on the car but still use it all the time!

This ocasionally happens with my car too. Haven't bothered going to the dealer with it, but wil mention it the next time I'm in. Not a very big issue, but a very annoing one when it first happens.
The mirrors do unfold after driving some meters though.

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Had this for a while until recently. My Scirocco's battery has for a long while been at 25% to 40% charged due to my short cold start trips. Decided recently to deep charge the battery several times over a few weeks. This has taken the battery upto 65% - 75% charged level. The mirror issue has gone. So assume its to do with low battey charge/voltage during the starting phase and how the driver's Door Controller initiates itself.
No fault indications at any time.
Also VW state that the dimming of lights in the mirrors can also affect the mirror unfolding and delaying the movement by about 15 seconds. The lack of movement can happen if the switch is moved to unfold selections within the 2 second mirror light dimming period. Solution is to wait more than 2 seconds until the mirror lights have fully dimmed. Then command the unfold with the door switch.

What method are you using to check your battery level please Chris ?
Quite interested in this.

I've never managed to get the hang of mirrors. The left one dipping for reversing and the fold unfold. Can never get it to do what I want. One day I'll work it out.

Not true, you must get lucky or have an amazingly special car.Gilez wrote:I am convinced though, if you start to drive they unfold (as long as the switch is in the correct position).
I've driven my car a lot with the mirrors not doing anything resulting with a lot of changing back to folder, then heated, then if nothing back to closed, then 'L' and nothing and even when pulling over and restarting the engine it's not always guaranteeing to work. Same on my friends 170 Diesel, so not limited to certain spec.
Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
I disagree - certainly found that with my Golf VI and others have talked about a similar situation with their cars in previous posts. If you just mean its not true for you then fair enough... !

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Yip. Had the same thing a few times, it clears itself after a few turns of the switch. Bit weird.
Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
I found fiddling with the switch confuses the car even more. Best proecedure is to start the car, wait for a few seconds and then turn the switch. 9 times out of ten the mirrors flip out - failing that, leave the switch alone and drive off - they will flip out after a few seconds at the most....

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Na, my mirrors definitely unfold as I drive off. I'm not sure if it is a speed thing or just time.Ryy wrote:Not true, you must get lucky or have an amazingly special car.Gilez wrote:I am convinced though, if you start to drive they unfold (as long as the switch is in the correct position).

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
I’ve discovered that they always delay in unfolding if I turn the control knob too soon after turning the ignition key. This happens absolutely every time if I’m too quick. This was exactly the same on my previous MK6 Golf so must be an issue with the control modules, or something, that are used.

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
Same with mine. Long delay sometimes.
Maybe they should update from MS-DOS to at least windows 95.
Another thing that niggles me is it won't let me connect my phone if I am at speed. You must be be stationary. It's a safety thing. BUT, tank it on the motorway you can fold in the mirrors, WTF
