Re: 2008 - 2.0 TSI - P0300
With this mileage and this engine (2.0TSI), and your symptoms of misfire, particularly when cold and on low RPM......i'd say its probably from intake valve carbon build up. If this engine has never been decoked by media blasting or manual mechnical cleaning with the intake manifold off - then it wil...

Detailed information on this engine can be found here : http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_359.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Hall sender G40, page 34) It states if there is no camshaft sensor output - the engine will continue to run if already running, but w...

Re: 1.4 TSI 160 non starter advice
Hi, How did you time the engine?, did you use the proper camshaft locking tool, the crankshaft locking bolt along with a TDC gauge - following the official procedure here: http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25644&p=206702#p206702" onclick="window.open(this.h...

Re: Wheel Bearing Help
Just looked it up on VW's part database (ETKA) Original Part number was 1T0598611B however this has been superseded with 3G0598611A (which is what you will get when you order from the dealership parts department) If going third party, then either of those part numbers is fine and will be correct - V...

Re: Piston Slap after rebuild Scirocco 1.4 TSI Twincharged
I rebuilt my 1.4 TSI twincharger with wossner forged pistons. I get very little if any piston slap, maybe a tiny amount for a minute but i think the noise i hear is more the classic valve tapping due to the hydraulic lifters draining down overnight, rather than piston slap. I didn't need the bore cu...

Re: Please help scirocco 1.4 160 misfiring problem 2011 manu
With low compression on the affected cylinder, with this engine there is no doubt the piston will be cracked on the ring lands. The engine will need to be disassembled and a new piston fitted. To be honest all 4 should be replaced as they are as weak as chocolate. The latest revision pistons are mad...

Re: Please help scirocco 1.4 160 misfiring problem 2011 manu
I would have a compression test done - piston cracking is common on all CAVD engines (2009 to Jan 2012).

Re: 1.4 or 2.0 petrol
They carried on using the 160ps superchargers for quite a while on the scirocco - up until sometime in 2014 i think you could get a new scirocco with the 1.4 160ps twincharger. 2013 models onward's were a different base engine - CTHD (as opposed to the CAVD). The CTHD is the same as the CAVD but has...

Re: 1.4 or 2.0 petrol
Piston issue on the CAVD 1.4 TSI Twincharger 160ps, tends to hit around the 60k mark....it can happen earlier or later of course but from what i've seen it's common to happen around 60k. Unless new pistons have been fitted on a rebuild that occurred in 2012 or later (if VW did the work) then i would...

Re: 1.4 tsi 160 engine died!
How can it have no compression and bent valves? This belt doesnt drive the cam shaft, it's powered by the camshaft. Or am i seeing something wrong. Yes the crankshaft pulley wheel drives the auxiliary/accessories belt. However behind that pulley, inside the timing chain cover, on the same shaft - i...

Re: 1.4 tsi 160 engine died!
Unfortunately it is almost certain you have bent valves and will need a cylinder head rebuild :/ The pulley bolt secures the lower timing chain sprocket on the crankshaft. With the bolt out the sprocket is likely to have jumped out of its retaining lug and the timing chain would have stopped turning...

Re: Body flex on 2012 R
This will most likely be your door seals creaking - common problem on all VAG cars (and nearly all modern cars for that matter) Solution is either massive stiffening of body - which may not stop it completely. or Gummi Pflege : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gummi-Pflege-Rubber-Stick-100ml/dp/B007TNOQDI&q...

Re: All wheel buttons and horn not working
yes it will be a coding issue - i'm assuming with the price you paid it is the newer model which has the steering column electronics module built into it - this will need to be properly coded for everything to work correctly. You will need something like VCDS or can pay up the nose for VW dealership...

Re: All wheel buttons and horn not working
Pre 2015 models it should only be £90 for the clock spring (vw dealership price)
2015 onwards, the clock spring is integrated into the steering column module and is a lot more expensive (as above)

Re: Battery Help
If the battery is OEM and over 3 years old, then one deep discharge and its toast. You can charge it all you like, it won't hold and will keep loosing charge. People don't realise that in modern cars with their high current drain, batteries are lucky to last 5 years - usually all it takes is one col...

I don't even have a ROC - i have a Golf!, but i've always liked this forum. Firstly it's UK based, unlike golfmkX.com and secondly it is a more enthusiasts site so you get more interesting posts (unlike volkswagenforum where you tend to get posts more from Joe Bloggs asking why their handbrake is ma...

Re: 1.4 TSI Condensation and white smoke
As Cuprabob says - the noise change is the ECU doing Cat pre-heating for about 30 seconds.....it will do this if the engine (coolant temp) is between 20c and ~30c on startup, and if the car hasn't been started for a short while. You will therefore tend to find it happens a lot in summer months in th...

Re: HELP !! Engine issues 1.4 tsi
Total and utter crap....take your car elsewhere, i wouldn't trust anyone who came back with carbon buildup as made your valves bend. If you have bent valves then the timing chain has skipped or failed - simple as, nothing else will cause valves to bend. I have stripped and rebuilt this engine myself...

Re: parking in gear manual gearbox
Odd, but always good practice to leave a manual in first gear (or reverse facing down on a hill) when parked. Won’t roll away if handbrake fails. NEVER do this with a Timing Chain engine, especially a TSI engine - not unless you like having to have your engine rebuilt or scrapped after starting it....
