Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
OK it's been a bit of a jouney but I now have what I believe to be the perfect solution - an OCZ Rally2 64GB USB stick. Plenty of storage for the largest MP3 collection, super quick to initialize, works first time every time, starts where it left off, should cope with the cold as it has no moving pa...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
Hi Breeza, thanks for your input. Can I ask why you would prefer the USB key method? Also, does it have the same result using the USB ie scroll through the files on the screen etc? Yes I'm a noob, haha!! Because every time you start the car it resets and initialises the SD card. I found this was ta...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
Yeah that folder structure should be fine I can't remember if when you skip tracks it will go into the next folder but it certainly does when you naturally get to the end of the last track in the current folder.
I would still advise a USB key in the MDI rather than an SD card though.

Re: Variable bit rate MP3's on RCD510
One thing the rcd510 doesn't handle with VBR mp3s through the MDI is showing the remaining track time. With constant bit rate files this works fine.

Re: HDD's, HCSD's and MP3's
HDDs are luck of the draw. Most will be recognised as long as they are formatted in FAT32 but only some will continue the same track where you left off after a restart. I would stear clear of SD cards as they take an age to initialise every time you start the car. Even some USB flash drives can be a...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
As I suspected Western Digital couldn't come up with an answer. They are saying the two part numbers are identicle! Hmm so why are they different part numbers then

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
Pahh! The drives I was testing I borrowed from work. As the WD5000ME-00 1309A worked fine I went ahead and ordered one but the drive I received actually has a very slightly different part number WD5000ME-00 3309A. This one doesn't resume where it left off! I have logged a support call with Western D...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
Thanks, Yes the operating spec is 5 degrees and above however I suspect it will work at lower temperatures. When it gets below -5 though I can imagine it won't like it too much :) I can live with it the few days a year it gets that cold. Even a really old Western Digital 120GB USB drive WD1200U017 w...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
Well my experience is a bit different as I have had 100% success with the WD My Passport Essential 500GB part number WD5000ME-00 1309A I have a folder structure of a-z\artist\album and it works fine with about 180GB of MP3s. The access time is 5 seconds slower than a usb stick on first turning on th...

Re: RCD510 & SD Card Help
The delay was driving me mad so I scrapped using the SD card and tried a few USB sticks. Hardly any delay but some sticks work more reliably than others. A generic brand sometimes fails to initialise but the sandisk cruzer contour 16gb was fine. I am currently testing a couple of different western d...

RCD510 & SD Card Help
Just got a Golf6 with RCD510 and I am trying to use it with an SD card. It all works fine in general and I am very impressed with it but I have the following problem: When I turn on the ignition the RCD powers up and immediately starts playing the mp3 from where it left off but as soon as I turn the...

The Satnav RCD unit only accepts SD cards and not SDHC but the later RCD510 units accept SDHC cards.JaseW wrote:The SDHC card was formatted as FAT32. I'll format it again and test it to make sure.. jus tin case it was a gremlin

Re: Random Play of All Music from Hard Drive?
The manual of the RNS510 details that you must first start to play an mp3 track in the root of the media and then use the mix button to start random play. It should then random play all files on the media even if they are in sub folders.

Re: Connecting an iPod/iPhone via MDI
I am pretty sure that SDHC cards upto 32GB can be used in the SD slot of the standard RCD510 but not the RNS sat nav version.stan_blade wrote:beware of large SD cards as I'm sure there is something in the manual that says cards over 4Gb are not supported.
Has anyone tried a larger SD card than that?

Re: Connecting an iPod/iPhone via MDI
i'm just using a 4gb sd card and reader at the moment. When re starting it always returns to the folder you are in and continues where you left off. Not had any experience of a hd yet as ahve the sat nav with 20gb hd so am loading that as i go. Unless you have a huge library i'd suggest get a usg f...

Re: Connecting an iPod/iPhone via MDI
From what i've heard the iphone doesn't wotk with the VW kit - has to have rSAP capability. I've done some comparisons and would recommend that you use a portable hd instead of the Ipod. The sound quality is better, it works faster and remembers the folder you are in after you switch off the engine...

Re: Is the ipod MDI connection digital or analogue?
That's really useful, thanks for the detailed explanation. I work in the IT industry so get as techy as you like :) What are the symptoms of using an artist/album folder structure then? Is it the fact that it doesn't remember the track & position within the track when turning the ignition off an...

Re: Is the ipod MDI connection digital or analogue?
Hmm, if it is digital it wouldn't use the ipod internal amp so I am not sure why there is a difference in sound quality between the MDI ipod & USB connections.
Can anyone test if by changing the volume on the ipod itself it changes the volume through the car speakers?
