It seems I've got the same problem with my actuator as the fuel flap won't open. I've managed to release the flap by jacking the car up and loosening the wheel arch lining and pushing the switch from behind, but guess I need a new actuator now. I've had the official VW roof bars on and off the car for the last year. Not damage to my car or rubber seals. The rubber seals do get pulled back and slightly deform when the bars are taken off, but they move back in to place after a few days and you can't tell the bars have been on.

I've got the VW roof bars (picked them up new from a member here for £185 and fitted them myself) and Thule pro ride 598 cycle carrier (£85). So not cheap, but I find it the best compromise. I can't fit two bikes in the back and it's a faff removing wheels and protecting the inside from scratching. ...
