Check the AUX input level. The option is under Setup -> Media -> AUX input level Mine was set to Level 3 and the sound quality was terrible. Changed it to Level 1 and there was a massive improvement. That's a really good question, the iOS update couldn't have done that, it must have been coincidental and either I or someone else has accidentally changed that setting without realising.

Problem solved!!! :-) Rather simple in the end though it's something I never even thought would affect the input of the MDI cable, my AUX Input Level in the RCD510 Settings was set to High, so I changed it to Medium and that completely fixed the distortion. Thanks for the replies. I've tried both iTunes and Spotify, it's actually Spotify that i use in my car. Regarding the phone reset, i've already tried rebooting the phone and i have also done a factory reset but still no difference. :-(
