Re: Battery charger / jump start box

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The Optimate charger replicates the functions of my original tried/trusted Carcoon power system, so with your answers I feel I'll give that a go to gently boost the charge.

Battery charger / jump start box

The manual states I can't use a charger to keep the battery charged, and doesn't recommend 'booster boxes' (which I've used on other cars for years), does anyone know if there is a genuine reason for this ? My local dealer initially said that my automatic/trickle charge 'Carcoon Power & Charge' ...

Re: Donnington Park Current State :(

That's a real shame. I've driven Donington at 'speed' in my DeLorean during a great Renault World Series weekend. Both the track and the location were as user friendly as Silverstone, especially for those from the north. Even if they never get F1, it would be good to see the track at least restored ...

Re: Exhaust light / electrical faults - update

Quick update. The faults on my car have been diagnosed as a 'real' electrical fault. After much wire tracing, the main power relays have been changed. So far, so good..!

Re: Exhaust light / electrical faults ?

I've got the car back. They reset the warning, but couldn't replicate any of the faults. Drove it 35 miles home, stopped for fuel, restarted to the warning light being on again.

Arranging for a longer visit to the dealers.

On the plus side, it is impressively clean !

Exhaust light / electrical faults - update

On Tuesday, the exhaust system warning light came on. A quick trip to my loal dealer said "nothing to worry about, bring it in when you can", at that time there were no obvious running problems. On Thursday morning I got into the car. No warning light as I waited for the pre-heat light to ...

Re: Heated seats

"occupant sensors".... bah! I've paid for 2 heated seats, I should be able to put my coat on the passenger seat and have it toasty warm when I get out of the car!

Re: De-Icers

I'll probably open myself up for ridicule.. but after a long day at work, my frozen car 'appeared' to have two issues. After careful consideration, both were down to 'user error'. 1. Once I'd freed off all of the windows/mirrors I got in the car, but I couldn't get the door to close properly. It jus...

I have an older I-pod nano. Although the light went out, it never actually switched off fully.... so I purhcased a "Tesco special" Sony USB stick.

Re: Water inside fuel filler area

RW1. Thanks very much for the image, that was really helpfull. I was looking in the right place, but no hole, I'll get a pin or something to try and pierce it.

There's no entry hole at all! There appears to be a small circular indent, similar to what was on my Golf where there should be a hole, but nothing....

Water inside fuel filler area

On my car, the area behind the fuel filler door seems to fill with (rain) water that doesn't drain itself.

Has anyone else noticed this please?

Re: Anyone know anything about cameras?

If you are still in the market, I might offer another suggestion. I've ordered the Olympus SP 590 UZ. On the site you've referenced before http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_sp590uz.asp The Olympus and similar are 'cross over' cameras, smallish, better than compacts but without the in...

Re: Daylight Running Lights. ARGGHHH......

It hasn't worked on my 2009 car. :grumpy:

VW really can't have it both ways, either it is a requirement (in which case it shouldn't be possible for any owner to turn their own DRLs off by the stalk method) or it isn't....

You'd be surprised how often manufacturer's amend photos, see the 'general talk' discussion "Brochure 'errors' 1st January 09 edition"......

Re: different shaped buttons & displaying the ACC setting on MFD

Have they actually moved the buttons, or it this another "can't be bothered to photograph a RHD, lets just photoshop a LHD" issue?

Plus, look closely, clearly the guys taking the photo hate DRL's as well, they've deliberately switched to side-lights.....

Yes, I know, must get out more ;)

Re: Anyone driving a TDI??

True, running the car at idle isn't necessarily a good idea, I mention it because without doing that I'd be getting more than 53.6mpg!

In my case, I live in a village with a winding 1:4 hill between me and the motorway so there would be an immediate strain on the engine....

Re: Media Sources connected by USB

I bough the Sony 16GB MicroVault USB from Tesco when they were cheap, the response is instant.

I'd avoid the new style (nore expensive) USB sticks with built-in password protection/encryption, and the many fakes on E-bay......

Re: Anyone driving a TDI??

Overall very impressed with the car (less so the paint, but that's a different story). I traded across from the 1.9 TDi PD-115, which returned and average of 51mpg on my daily commute. Still with under 2000 miles on the clock, so I generally still warm the engine at idle for ~5mins before setting of...
