Water inside fuel filler area

Post by JohnC »

On my car, the area behind the fuel filler door seems to fill with (rain) water that doesn't drain itself.

Has anyone else noticed this please?

Theres a little drain hole at the lowest point on the black plastic collar surrounding the fuel filler pipe neck. Find something like 50cm of garden green stiff wire (1.5mm diameter thinner type) and gently feed it through. The wire end will come out behind the front half of the rear wheel about 10 cm inboard, level with the wheel centre . May be a small leaf particle or something similar has got wedged inside the drain tube.

There's no entry hole at all! There appears to be a small circular indent, similar to what was on my Golf where there should be a hole, but nothing....

John, here's mine, bit wet out there tonight but its working.

Maybe the black plug's hole hasn't quite moulded right and has a thin plastic skin over the hole area.

RW1. Thanks very much for the image, that was really helpfull. I was looking in the right place, but no hole, I'll get a pin or something to try and pierce it.
