whats the best mpg you get?

Post by ryancooke »

heres my results (sorry for the music, and the video is sideways)

Image

incase you cant see the video, its 41.2mpg, over 265miles average speed of 55mph (65mph on the motorway) and 4 hours and 49minutes of driving, ok i could have gone faster and saved time, but i saved myself about 20 pounds

this was a trip from my house (in crewe) to my mrs house (oxford) and back again, it seems like the air filter and exhaust has helped, i only put in 22 pounds worth of petrol, and it got me there and back, i was amazed, obviously i didnt put my foot down

ryan,

thats about the same as I get on my daily drive to Bracknell from West Oxford. Due to heavy traffic you cannot go much above 65-70 on the A34 / M4 anyway so rather than push along trying to save 2-3 minutes on the journey and getting wound up by every man and his dog hogging the outside lane, I just chill and go with flow. I find if I get a clear run and do @ 80 then it drops to 34-35 mpg and anywhere I can do 90 it drops to around 30 which is still brilliant for the power available.

I would be interested to know what a prolonged run at 50-55 would produce, although I for one will not be finding out purposely.

31 MPG is my average, and that's while running it in nice and gently. That might not sound impressive but that's all rural road driving and is constant up and down through the gears, it's actually a bloody good figure for the pace of travel (not caning it at all yet , just stroking it along using the low and mid torque), it's a very efficient car. I expect it'll drop into the high 20s once run in (because i'll be using a lot more throttle :) ) but that'll still be very good. My A3 2.0 FSI averaged low 20s, so did my clio 197. The turbo is so much more efficient it seems.

My average is sitting at 28.4mpg but I have a lot of heavy North London traffic i.e. the missus drives 3 miles to work and it takes her around 20 minutes. I drive to Heathrow once a week on business which is 12 miles and it can be anything up to an hour!!

Best I have had on a proper run was 33 sitting around the mid 70's on the motorway and my worst was 18 (great fun though!!)

I've got a TDi, is that cheating?

Average of 48 over the last 1000 miles.

Went to London and back on Sunday, cruising at motorway speed (plus a bit) returned 47.1 on the 410 mile trip.

I've just taken my roc for it's first lengthy run; 120 miles in just under 2 hours, dual carriageways at a speed of 70mph precisely (too many speed cameras on this particular run  ) but being fairly brisk whenever overtaking or accelerating away from roundabouts. And I got ... wait for it...

40.0 mpg

I'm pretty pleased with this. I'm not always going to drive like my nan (still running it in right now) but it's great to know that decent economy is available, should I choose to save my pennies every once in a while! :)

Driving back from my gfs house last night like a granny... 2 miles of empty single carriageway and 18 miles of dual, cruising at 60-65 all the way in 6th.

My dull diesel is still doing high 40's.

Can't afford to run a petrol anymore, 3600 miles in the first five weeks of ownership, and enjoying them all on the B Roads to work.

It's come to this after commuting over 80 miles a day in a GT6, two Renault 5 turbos, an X1/9, a modified 2.8 V6 Cortina, two Triumph 2.5 PI's, four years in a rally spec 1760 X-Flow Mk2 Escort, a jelly-mould Granada (don't know how I fell into that one!) and then on to diesel, two Peugeots, two SEATs and now the Scirocco. I've got bikes for the sunny/fast days, a Fireblade, TZR250 and a Kawaski triple. If you want fast, bikes are the way to go...

Why not take your TSi's to the Isle of Man for your legal speeding? Great roads and no limits in the unrestricted bits... :vibes:

How about this? Got the mpg shown while driving with the get-you home spare - so speed limited to 50mph. But what great mpg!!!!
great mpg in roccy.jpg
but more seriosuly - if I am tender - easily 35mpg. Find that BP and Shell return better mpg so now tend to use these in preference
