Esp is it on or off?

Just got the car, what a rush 2.0TSI. How do I tell if ESP is on or off. When the lights are on the ESP light by the gear stick is lit up yellow. If i press it the light by the speedo flashes on and off until I turn ignition off????

Also when my iphone is connected via the cable, frequently the music cuts out but the song still plays. I have to unplug the cable then plug in again. Anyone else have this problem with the iphone4? or is it the cable?

Its on as default. Holding the button and it flashing means its off (well as close to off as it gets as it doesnt fully diasable even when 'off')
