sat navs

Post by Tifa »

...3 months in and absolutely loving this car...

anyhooo's...I have the 510 screen....and I'm looking for a new satnav system

I've always used a garmin standalone...and to be fair, it works ok....however...it's a little long in the tooth

does anyone know if there is an upgrade or a retro fit for the 510 please?

if this on'e been done before....sorry...couldn't find anything with the search function..

cheers!

to get satnav within the radio headunit you need to upgrade the entire headunit to the rns510 (you currently have the rcd510)
if you search rns510 retrofit you will find plenty of threads about this

You can pick up an RNS510 and retro fit.... they seem to be around £600.

As a cheaper option, you could just get another stand alone unit as it'll be quicker, cheaper and easier!

Something like this is an excellent buy at the mo:

Garmin Nuvi 1340 Widescreen Sat Nav with UK & Western Europe (22 Countries) - Sat Nav: Amazon.co.uk
Current:
2011 VW Scirocco 1.4TSi DSG
2001 Citroen Saxo 1.1 Desire
1972 VW Beetle 1302S
1967 Lotus Elan +2 130S

Previous:
2008 Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D TR
1998 Lotus Elise
1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye

If you've got a smartphone - such as an iPhone the Navigon app is excellent on that too... not sure what's good on other devices, but they're cheaper than standalone units and you've also always got up to date maps!
