Help needed - Crankshaft position sensor.

Post by PM91 »

Hi guys,

I'm urgently needing some advice/help diagnosing an issue with my car.

It's been in the garage since start of August and we're not closer to finding the actual fault/issue.

To give context I was on a road trip over the summer and on the way home the car shuddered really badly and went straight into limp mode and briefly flashed an ABS light along with engine light.

I crawled the car then got it picked up and towed to a garage where it's been ever since.

Plugging in and reading the faults there is a p033600 active/static crankshaft position sensor a circuit, range/performance showing.

What we've tried so far:

1. Replaced the crankshaft sensor (twice)
2. Retimed the engine, then bought an entire new timing chain kit and fitted then timed again
3. O-scoped, wiring loom and ECU checked and even replaced the ECU. The fault carried over to the new ECU.

The car starts and runs but eventually goes into limp mode. Is there anything anyone can think of or get checked as the garage is now at a loss and is giving up and I'm getting pissed off now.

Just updating this for future reference in case anyone else experiences this issue.

I've found the issue, it was a broken reluctor ring. Snapped in half most likely due to the torque increase from stage 2 combined with salty fucking roads in Scotland.
