So my right rear shock is gone in my 2011 2.0tdi, and I've been looking at replacements. I bought the car around 4 months ago at 151k miles and its at about 154k now.
I was about to buy a set of KYB ultra Sr shocks for €45/each but I've just come to realise they don't have the DCC port/compatability, and that DCC compatible shocks are around €250 each... so does anyone here know if I could get away with just ignoring the DCC for the rear shocks and just install standard shocks?
Buying a used set at a scrapyard is an option too but I dont know if buying used shocks is a good idea... either way I really don't fancy forking out the extra €400 if I don't absolutely need to, cheers

You can check Monroe C1514R & C1517L. Those are the DCC shocks with ports and should be cheaper than the original ones. In fact, I have a feeling that those may be the same shocks since the originals also have Monroe labels on them. I have fitted those to my R-line TDI and they fitted and worked just fine - no errors & DCC modes work as expected.

I ended up coming across these myself eventually but wasn't 100% sure that they'd fit. Found them for just under €150 each so will definitely be going with this option. Dealer quoted me a price of €416 a cornervborshak wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 2:11 pm You can check Monroe C1514R & C1517L. Re: Rear shock replacement without DCC?
Yeah. For some reason it's almost impossible to find information if those would fit. Most sources/dealers will swear that they don't. I think even the online Monroe catalog will say they don't fit. The only source of information I relied on is the Shock Absorbers Master PDF catalogue you can find on their web-site https://www.monroe.com/en-eu/support/catalogues.html Although, I'm unsure if they would fit Scirocco R.
I did the replacement work myself, and when I removed the original shocks and put them next to the new Monroes, they were identical. The only difference were the stickers on them. It's been almost a year since I fitted them - no issues.
Hope this information helps the people save some (actually a lot) money..

Did you reuse the original bolts when changing the shocks? I've read some places online that they must be replaced, while others say reusing the old ones is fine. If I was to replace them, I don't know which ones I'd have to replace or what sizes to order in advance. Did you replace yours or reuse the original ones?

I reused the original ones. I would have replaced if they were really really rusty though, but they weren't.
I did a quick search in online part catalog and the part numbers per each shock absorber seem to be -
VAG N90648402 bolt - 2pcs (used in top mounting)
VAG N91066201 bolt - 1pc (used in bottom mounting)
VAG WHT000724 washer - 1pc (used in bottom mounting)
