Adding a reversing camera to MY2010

Post by ShaneTDF »

Hi all,

Two days ago I bought my first Scirocco, a 2010 1.4 TSI, and it came with a headunit (I believe RCD 360?) Looks identical to the RCD 330 plus but doesn't have the center auxiliary port on the front.

When I put the car into reverse, a message pops up saying The 'Rear View' Camera System is currently not available.

I'm wondering if anybody knows is it possible to connect a camera to my headunit? And if so, might the car already have a wiring loom for the camera fitted?

Would anybody have any recommendations for the best camera to fit if I were getting one?

Thank you in advance,
Shane

Installed my rear view camera today and very happy with the result.
I went with a Motormax MM0836 from Halfords, this unit replaces either of the number plate light bulb housings - the original bulb locks back into the new unit.

As I mentioned in my last post the radio In my car is an RCD 360 and it had a Yellow video input connection hanging out of the back of it and the Motormax camera fitted that perfectly. The wiring loom that came with the camera had
one blue and one black wire at the camera end (along with the camera connection). The black wire I connected to negative (car chassis) and the blue wire to the reverse bulb wire in the driver rear light connector. That is a blue/black wire - found that on Youtube and confirmed it switched on (in reverse) with a multimeter.
At the other end (radio end) of the wiring loom there was a blue wire labelled +12V output, a red wire labelled +12 volt and a black wire for negative. The camera comes with a card which has wiring information on it but I was a little confused by it. Crucially the card has a tech support phone number on it (UK Number), I phoned this twice with questions today and it was answered both times by Motormax and the guys were extremely helpful, they listened to what I had done so far and then told me what to do next. Turns out because I had taken the +12 volt feed from the reverse light, at the radio end I just had to join the blue wire labelled +12 volt output and the red wire labelled +12 volt and
then connect the black wire to negative. The joy of picking up the phone and speaking to the people in the company who manufacture the camera was fantastic.
Trying to add an image of the reverse screen as it appears on the radio, not sure if I have cracked that..... (using upload an image).
If it doesn't appear maybe somebody can help.
