Aftermarket Android Unit - Waze Obsession?

Post by iAlex »

As the title, I am obsessed with Waze and I am tired on using my phone with it. What Aftermarket Android unit would you recommend?(If anyone did that)

Thanks

Thinking about it myself, but there are very few on the market at the moment. The only one I could find was a Pioneer thats over £500. Not a fan of the VW system so will be upgrading in the end. Just need to wait for AA to mature.

I just bought a Pioneer Avic-F70dab. I use it with my s7 edge on android auto. I got it for £560 off ebay it was an ex display model. I would suggest buying the CTKVW01 kit aswell (£60) which you will need to make it fit in the original headunit gap.

To be fair android auto isnt all that but it is good for hands free and using spotify/maps. Also in that Ctk kit you get a patch lead so the buttons on the steering wheel work (only next/back and volume).

Only thing is the s7 edge isnt workong with mirror link on it at the mo but still playing with it!

I had my eye on one of them. So without the kit none of the steering wheel buttons will work?

Well without the patch lead thats the thing which will make them work, but your call button and speaker on steering wheel wont wor. Checked loads of places how to make it work but apparently its alot of hard work

The CTKVW01 should make the call and mute button work. Does on my car!

So bit of a mess really...better to stick for a genuine unit from VW, right? If it's not plug and play, plus the antenna has to be fitted somewhere else, right?
hmmm....

Its not too bad mate the only tricky thing is trying to put the casing from the CTKVW01 together, bar that it is just plug everything intogether and push it all down behind. Oh and if you got that inparticular headunit just running the gps reciever and mic through to places you want them. But that is really easy (trust me im usually never good at that stuff).

Its up to you really but if the pioneer is cheaper id personally pick that over the VW one.

The aerial is no different unless you want dab in which case youd have to run that through somewhere. If you dont you get an aerial adapter in the CTKVW01 kit which just pushes into the original cable and into the back of the headunit :)

I had a pumpkin system installed for the best part of a week, the android on it is good and you can do a lot with it (torque), but the amp in my unit was shockingly bad compared to the factory RCD510 so I had to return it, would not recommend if you care about sound quality.

A off brand headunit that runs android. They can run android apps but are often shockingly poorly made
