'Old' wiper problem - still relevant in 2016?

Post by SeaYem »

I'm about to take delivery of my new Scirocco R. :D It's the latest facelift model, and I've been trawling the forum a bit to see what 'negative aspects' to expect from ownership.

One thing of major concern that I've come across is the OE wiper problem with excessive smearing and lack of visibility that memebers have mentioned here and elsewhere ... I'm in Asia and am blessed with not that many rainy days per year compared to the UK, but when it does rain heavily, think driving through a waterfall  so this issue is a real concern in a place where roadcraft is less than evident when it's dry, and, as you can imagine, pretty much non-existent when it chucks it down.

My main two questions ... is this still an issue that also includes LHD cars or has VW finally sorted it on later models like mine?

And, secondly, is the best solution still likely to be replacing with Bosch or Valeo aftermarket blades, (and is there a best choice between the two?) assuming I can suss out a way to get them sent here?

Any thoughts appreciated ...

I've had pre and post facelift RHD R's and not had any issues with wipers in UK. That's not monsoons but moderate rainfall for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
