Paint anomaly on spoiler.

Post by Parsx »

Afternoon folks.

Was cleaning the car yesterday and noticed some spots on the paint on the spoiler hinge area. Pretty hard to describe but look to be the same colour as the paint, are raised slightly and rough to touch.

Don't think it's leftover polish, used sonax bsd and not had this issue before. Any thoughts?

Looks like paint blistering - has that area been resprayed in the past year?

Usually causes of this are water contamination of the paint on a respray job - in extremes of weather (cold or heat) the water in the paint will bubble and cause blisters underneath the paint surface.
Also using a car cover has been known to cause this - the cover trapping in moisture, it's exacerbated by freezing temperatures.

Not that I know of. I bought the car last December.

I think it's only appeared recently, didn't notice it last time I cleaned it.

Yeah what Blower said. From the pictures looks like moisture under paint causing blistering.
Had it on cars in the past that had been resprayed and hasn't shown until over a year after being resprayed.

That doesn't sound good then. Take it that's a bodyshop job to get fixed.

Or would it all under the 10 year warranty like the tailgates rust in another thread?

Rubbish. Must have misunderstood that one then.

I'll see if I can get it to a local place and get a cost etc, who knows maybe get a different colour!

The anti-perforation (corrosion) warranty is 12 years but paint is 3 years.

Ah I see, thanks for clearing that up. Knew I had seen 10 years somewhere.

It's actually 12 years. I've linked the details in my post.
