Air conditioning fault and very dim media unit display

Post by wintercooled »

The air con has packed up on my 2009 plate Roc. Use it everyday so the suggestion from vw that underuse can cause gas loss seems weak. Any ideas?

Also - since a week ago the display on the media unit has gone so dim that I can hardly see it even on it's brightest setting.

I've recently attached a magnet to the upper right hand corner of the media fascia (holds a mobile phone) - could that be the cause?

Interested in anyone else's experience before I take it to the dealer...

Thanks!

My aircon packed in on my 2011 Rocco, and it was down to a leaking condensor.

Normally if it's low on gas they will regas and add a dye to check for leaks.

The magnet is probably the cause of your dim display. If you look closely at the top right hand corner of your media display you will see a small hole. This is the light sensor. If you have it covered it thinks it's dark and will dim the display.

Doh! Thanks for the reply - saves me a fair amount of embarrassment when I take it in! Now I'll be spending most of the day trying to get the thing off! ;-)

Aircon compressor a very common fault on various models like Golf,Tiguan,Passat,if it happens to use the same one the bolt for the main pully is just left spinning in te hole and not spinning the compressor.

Thanks for the info - if it is that I'm guessing it will be covered by the warranty... I sure hope so as I found that I have a flat back tire this morning so need to splash out on tires first.

That's what you get for using American tires. Buy some good British tyres instead :-)

Happy days - they repaired it (small nail hole in middle of tread) - £15 :-)
