RCD510 bluetooth dropout

Post by Trickytree1984 »

Hi all,

I have done a few searches but can't find the answer.

I Keep getting Bluetooth dropouts in the middle of calls. I am currently using a galaxy s3 but have had the same problem with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. Basically about 30 seconds into a call, the Bluetooth disconnects and drops the call. Sometimes it reconnects, sometimes I need to turn off the ignition to get the thing to connect again. I never have to do anything on the phone which leads me to believe it is the 510 that is to blame.

It isn't a signal drop, I get a no phone connected message and the media play won't work via Bluetooth either. I get it on pretty much every call these days . It is defiantly more frequent since I changed to the s3. To clarify, I never get drop outs while listening to media over Bluetooth, only on calls

Perhaps I need a firmware upgrade, but I have no idea how to do that?

That sounds to me like it's a problem with your RCD 510. I have the Galaxy S3 as well and used it in my car (before the system was stolen this week!) without any problems. I had my S3 repaired after dropping it on the floor and ever since then, it didn't always find the bluetooth signal when i got in the car, but after restarting the phone, it was detected again.

I would guess that the problem you're talking about is a problem with the 510 unit rather than the phone as it works again if you turn the ignition on and off. I'd call your local VW dealership and see if they have anything on their log files with similar problems... :)
