Replacing Horn / Siren

Post by johnjm »

VCDS indicates that my cars horn/siren is defective. I then tested it to confirm - when alarm is activated there is no sound...

Where is it situated in the engine bay? Im not sure if its covered outside of the 1st year so I might just source a used one and replace. Are they the same accross VW models?

Its rivited inside a stainless steel guard housing which is located right up inside the rear of the right hand wing behind the plastic mud splash shield near the bottom of the A pillar. You will need to drill out 2 or maybe 3 rivits. The unit then unplugs.

The internal batteries are usually the problem. There are "how-to" repairs on the www if you search the fault code below. Pretty sure its a common unit.

I had mine go last Christmas in the freezing weather. Replaced as part of the VW warranty free of charge (15 months since purchase). The initial indication is the driver's door red LEDs stop performing its rapid flashing. Instead the red LED came on solid then goes to the slow flash rate when the key fob is pressed to lock the car. VCDS showed fault code "01134 - Alarm Horn (H12) ".

Thanks. I have the same error code 01134. The car is 25 months old so Im sure it is still under warranty as yours was replaced after 15 months. A bit of a schlep to book it in to be honest but will have to do it.
