Whats it worth??????

Post by boardlord »

Fancy a change so contemplating changing the car. It's going in for it's 1st service on the 29th so gonna get a px/buy back price from the dealer.

1st Mar 11 reg BMT GT 2.0TDi Rising Blue, Leather, Mats, Black centre console and door grabs and a 'R' gear knob and gaitor. Absolutely spotless....

I'm hoping for 18k-18.5k as list is 26k with the options, but I think i'm living in dream land :(

Any thoughts or recent prices greatly appreciated.

Hi Ben, yes - I think your expectations are slightly over the mark (I think we are all left slightly disappointed with values), is yours manual or DSG? Also mileage is a factor, I think somewhere between £16,300 - £17,500 but that is manual.

Ben,

The VW dealers are selling them on for ~19-19.5 so you might have to manage your expectations a little.

Ben, the bits you added later will not make a blind bit of difference to the dealer - i'd take them off, put the original stuff back on and sell the extras on ebay. Does that mean as factory fit options go yours has just leather as extra to standard GT spec? You'll probably get another £300 to £400 for the fact you have leather.

The car may have strong residuals, but the extras don't. Selling a car at 1 year old means you take a disproportionately high hit on the resale/part ex price. You may only lose another 3 grand over the following 2 years if you get £17k or thereabouts for it now (3 grand depreciation for another 2 years of warrantied driving in a Roc is a very good deal).

If the performance is what's curbing your enthusiasm, why not get a remap to about 170PS? The extra money you'll pay out on the insurance will be small potatoes compared to the high initial depreciation you'd have lost.

So what are you thinking of changing to?

If you do decide to change, maybe putting it up on here will bring more money in - try punting it for about a grand more than realistic part ex. You get a grand more and the new owner will save £1500/2000 against dealership price. Gotta make the price diffrential worth it to the would-be buyer to forgo the reassurance of buying from a dealer with potentially their finance route to fund the car.

Maisbitt thanks your comments

Dealer fitted the extras FOC so they gotta stay.

17k is a bit stingy it wont go for less than 17.5k or we'll just wait till Aug, We change our car every 12-18 months as a rule.

Performance doesn't bother me. I ride a ZX10 so get my speed kicks there :)

The plan at the mo is to get a Mini roadster or a 1 series convertible then pre-order a MK7 Golf GTD when it becomes available next year. We had a MK6 GTi before this and a ED30 before that all from the same dealer, so they know were a good customer and will be back for the GTD so expecting a good buy back offer.

I know we'll get more private but I really cant be bothered with all the hassle.

Ben,

If you change your car every 12-18 months then you must be used to heavy depreciation. The longer you keep it, the less it hurts you in the wallet.

Your dealer must love you, changing the car as often as you do. I doubt the "buyback" will be that generous if you're not chopping it in for another VW. Make sure you get a good discount on your next car - it's a buyers market at the moment, haggle hard, with multiple dealers.

Right, just a quick update for peoples reference.

Mercedes offered 16.8k against a c class coupe @ 34k (5k deposit contribution and 4% disc) 5% APR Misses thought was too big

Mini offered 16.7k against a cooper SD @ 24.2k (1k deposit contribution and 4% disc) 0% APR on a 50/50 deal Misses hated the seats

VW offered 17.4k against a Golf GTD @ 27.5k, and 17.2k buy back. (10% disc) 7.8% APR Too expensive with new model due out later this year

BMW 1 series Convertible I had so much grief from mates about driving one I changed my mind :?

We've told mini we want 17.5k and then they'll get a sale, going to try the Recaros to see if she prefers them, and to contact me after the 10th March as we're off to sunnier climates tomorrow, or failing that we'll wait till June with a view to order for Sept delivery and may try selling privately. Vw estimated a p/x of 17k in june which will give us another 600 equity

A Mini JCW was the 'other' car from my final shortlist when I got the Scirocco - I came down on the side of the Scirocco in the end as it would have been the third Mini on our drive.

The one I test drove had Recaros, and they were superb - knowing they were an expensive option, I asked the price. "£2000" the sales girl started, and just as I was wondering whether that was too much of an extravagance, she said, "each" !!!

Rather makes shopping round for the best trade in a bit of an insignificance!

There not that much any more IIRC there £1725 in conjunction with a pack we have already ordered. The other option is lounge leather at £845 so there only £880 more. We have had a 53 plate supercharge mini and a 57 plate turbo charged clubman, I loved them both, great fun. Something I think the Scirocco lacks :(

I think I have misunderstood this post, it almost looks like the price of the Mini was £24,200 :shake:

I for one couldn't do it. You'd probably only get 20% of the £5.4k back at sale/trade-in time. Each to their own though, but I can think of a lot of other £24,200 cars I would be looking at.
