Replacing Door Card

Post by ayeaye »

I'm going to be replacing my driver's door card as it's got damaged, tried a repair and it's still noticeable. Anyways, looking at ETKA for all the bits I might need in case anything breaks, there's one piece that I'm not sure about:

Parts 16 and 17 listed as clip lower and upper. From the diagram, it would appear that 16 is included with the door card presumably it's under the speaker grill so not really accessible. But will 17 be on the door panel once the door card has been removed?

Their part numbers are:
6Q0 868 297 – clip lower part x1
6Q0 868 246 A – clip upper par x1

Looking on the thread Shaun started about replacing the door warning lights, there's nothing obvious as to what this 16 and 17 could be:

Any ideas if these parts are something I would need to worry about?

Cheers

Thanks Shaun.

Going to swap over the trim this evening. One thing - does the tweeter just sit in the three mounts around the area it goes, looking at the replacement door card I can see three mounting points but there doesn't appear to be any clip to hold it in place. Guess it could just be that once the door card is mounted the tweeter is held in place by pressure against the door, or does it need some glue to hold it in place?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here..... got the door card replaced and everything fitted but I'm not getting as good a fit as the original - or at least it feels that way. There's a little play in the door card towards the rear of the car if you press down on the top of it, especially along the edge of it. Same doesn't happen on the passenger side which hasn't been removed and it feels more solid with no play.

All screws line up from the handle and the door clips are lined up correctly and all secure.

So I'm wondering whether there's a knack to fitting the door car to get a perfect fit? Is it a case of keeping pressure applied along the top whilst screwing in the bottom screws first or something simple?

If the clips are anything like other makes they are "ribbed" which means you can hear them click into place but if you put a bit more pressure on the area where the clips are they may click again and fit closer to the door.

As long as the clips are in the correct position both on the door card and themselves (i.e they have not popped open) then they do need quite a bang with your hand to locate in place.

Maybe I've been too gentle with them as I basically just lined them up and pushed the card in and they seemed to click in place (I was using new clips) - they all seem to be in place, as in i can't move any parts of the door card off the vertical, but perhaps not hard enough. I've got plenty of spare clips so I might spend some time tomorrow removing and reseating it. Unless I can get away with walloping them in more as they are just now.

Is it possible that without enough pressure they're secure but not enough, thus causing the end to flex a little?

I think they need a bang to get them in, you know their locations from those pictures so just give them a wallop with the palm of your hand.
