Opinions on official Volkswagen Bluetooth hands free system?
So after having the Roc for a few months, I've tried various ways to use the iPhone 4 cheaply with it.
1. Balance it on my lap on speakerphone...Dangerous and a disaster
2. Use the headphone port to play the music from iPhone until call comes in. Very echoey experience for the other person
3. Bought a Parrot MiniKit Slim which was a steaming pile of poo. Couldn't even wipe the contacts upon returning the thing so some poor bugger is stuck with my address book.
My local dealer is offering the Volkswagen Bluetooth hands-free system for €285 including installation. I'm not particularly gone on having a big touchscreen hanging off my dash, especially since I use Voice Control on the iPhone to start calls so I'm wondering if anyone had this particular option installed and could recommend it over something like the Fiscon.
I really just want something that routes the audio through the car speakers and picks up my voice well since the phone does a very good job with voice recognition to begin with.
Thanks.

I added the proper VW Bluetooth to mine and its brilliant , not the one with a separate little screen version but the 5N0 035 730D, this is what I would fit if I was you.

I've got the little screen version as it was already fitted when I bought the car. To be fair it works fine for calls, voice dialling etc but I'm still tempted to change to the integrated VW one.

Cheers for the quick responses folks. Quick question Shaun...Does your system get initiated from the phone button on the steering wheel and then where do you scroll for phone info?Shaun wrote:I added the proper VW Bluetooth to mine and its brilliant , not the one with a separate little screen version but the 5N0 035 730D, this is what I would fit if I was you.

Initiated ?, when I get in and start the car the phone automatically connects up, you can then use the phone with the steering wheel buttons (I.e look through phone book, answer phone etc etc) or the Touchscreen stereo or via voice activation if you have itkiwicelt wrote:Cheers for the quick responses folks. If you look on the vwcruise link there are a few YouTube videos showing the Bluetooth in action with the RNS10, it shows both the MFD and head unit menus and how you make calls etc.

Mmm...definitely looks interesting though my Roc has the RCD310 which I actually like (not a huge fan of touchscreen UI's in cars.). This decision just got a little more complicated

Agree with Shaun. The VW one is excellent, and you don't even know it's fitted as the mic is behind the screen in the fornt interior light assembly.
Deffo money well spent (even fitted it to the wifes new Polo 6R for £250) !

Sounds like a definite option. I'd prefer to keep the existing RCD310 radio but it's not a dealbreaker if it's not compatible with it in any way.
I work on software user interfaces and most radios drive me batty with their layout decisions. I'm looking at you Kenwood BT8041U

If you've got the full DIS fitted then everything can controlled from within the dashboard. Generally if you've got a MF wheel you'll have a full DIS.
