Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
Just a quick reminder when choosing, that the 140 TDi will now come with blue motion technology (BMT) as standard as opposed to the 170 So if the CO group is important to you re: company car tax etc then be aware when making your choice.
Not saying that the 140 should be your pref but it might be a consideration for you.
Kind Regards

Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
Sorry to bring up an old thread on a first post but how are people finding the 140's ? I am looking at buying one with the view to remap it straight away but i have been used to my remapped mkiv Golf PD150 which is pushing 195bhp will i notice a huge difference in power?
I am torn as at times i feel like my Golf could do with more let alone at 140 remapped to 175-180 ?

Kerrse: Why buy a 140 to remap it immediately? Would it not be better to buy a 170 to start with? If you're a UK resident, the penalties can be huge with insurance company for remap (if you declare). Someone I know who has full no claims has remapped their 140 to 170PS and pays £180 extra a year on their insurance, as opposed to a £30 difference in quote between his 140 and a factory 170.
There's only £760 between a 140GT Bluemotion and a 170GT in the UK, and you'll get 1/2 of that back if you trade in after 3 years, as opposed to paying upwards of £300 for a remap.
There's a bigger gap between the list prices of the 2 cars if you don't go GT on the 140.
I have a 140, after coming from a MK5 Golf 170 - the 170 Roc wasn't available when I got mine, but I definitely felt I was missing out when the 170 Roc was announced.
If you get a 170 and feel it's still not enough, you could take it to 200-210PS easily, you can't realistically do that with the 140.
Biggest difference to me is far less grunt in 5th/6th with the 140 - you'll be changing down more often to overtake in the 140.

Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
The insurance isn't a problem i am 40 this year so insurance doesn't cost me much as loads os ncb and already insured on my Golf which is remapped to 195bhp. The car i want isn't a standard Scirocco it is a aftermarket special edition don't want to go into to much detail as not actually bought it yet so would rather keep it under wraps till i make the purchase but all going well will post pics up.
if i could get a 170 that looked the same i would buy it but this is a one off, thanks for your reply though.

I recently bought a BM. The 170 was a little to easy to speed in for me. The BM has enough grunt for me, better mpg and cheaper insurance. I am very happy with my Rocc.

My GT 170 is sweet Jesus dressed in satin and why remap a 140 when it's easier to buy a 170 ?
I would love an R but can't afford it and that's what we all aspire to.

I don't aspire to an "R", if I did I'd have one.

How come? I'd like the higher spec, even if the difference in performance is minimal.Garry74 wrote:I don't aspire to an "R", if I did I'd have one.

To fast for me. I'd be wrapped around a tree within a week.

Go for the GT170 - just driven 280 miles up the m5/6, followed by a sprint down some country lanes and it's superb!
Obviously get it chipped, I'm pushing 212hp, and you can certainly feel the difference.
Oh, 49mpg all the way, so not too bad at all!!

Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
Personally i've ordered the 140 (being built this week) but having test driven both 140 and 170 i'm expecting to have to pout a tuning box on it once the weather brightens up and the cars broken in a bit.
